Banana ice cream

What do you need?

• 1 ripe banana, freeze it.

• 1 teaspoon cocoa powder (optional)

How to make it?

1. Blend frozen bananas and cocoa powder.

2. Serve banana ice cream, you can can also add almond into it. This is also suitable to relieve the pain of growing teeth.

Avocado ice cream

What do you need?

• 1 ripe banana

• 3 strawberries (don’t forget to clean it)

• 1 avocado

• 1 teaspoon coconut oil

How to make it?

1. Put all the ingredients into a blender, make puree.

2. Put puree to container, freeze for 1 hour or more.

3. Take it out from freezer, stir it, put it back in the freezer. Repeat this process until the texture is similar to ice cream or depends on your child's taste.

Note: If your child is allergic or doesn't like strawberries, you can replace it with another fruit, like mango or kiwi.

Dragon fruit ice cream

What do you need?

• 1/2 red dragon fruit (medium size)

• 2 ripe bananas

How to make it?

1. Make puree from all ingredients.

2. Freeze in the freezer for 1 hour. Remove, stir well, put it again in the freezer.

3. Repeat step number 2 until the consistency is similar to ice cream or according to the child's taste.

Best teether material for babies - Wooden teether, natural fabrics, or silicone teether?

We all knew choosing a teether for your little one’s aching gums could be so complicated. A teether is an object which when chewed by the babies give relieve to their sore gums. The teethers are available having the different bases such as wooden, BPA-free plastic, natural rubber, and silicone. Which teether material is the best one for my babies?

Raised your hand if you have tried to bite your baby teether? I have tried both silicone and wooden, I prefer chewing my bubble gum, but the feeling of biting teether was not that bad and weird, hahaha. Frankly saying, I like silicone teether better than wooden, but this is my personal opinion apart from what best for my baby. Silicone teether is way cuter than wooden one, colorful and attractive.

Which teether material is the best one for my babies?

You’ll definitely want to avoid any silicone teether that contain BPA, PVC, or phthalates. Why?

• BPA or bisphenol-A is a plastics chemical that mimics estrogen and disrupts the body’s hormonal systems. It’s particularly harmful for pregnant women, babies, and young kids. Though most regulatory bodies, including the FDA, will tell you BPA is safe in the small quantities that appear in plastic products, many companies have chosen to produce and market BPA-free plastics. Excellent! Except for one small detail: Many companies simply replace BPA with BPS — bisphenol-S — which is just as toxic, if not more toxic, than BPA. Bottom line? Just because a product is touted as BPA-free doesn’t mean it’s safe.

• PVC or polyvinyl chloride is the third most common plastic in the world — and also the most toxic. It’s bad stuff, and you definitely don’t want it in something your kids will put in their mouths.

• Phthalates are chemicals added to plastics to make them soft and supple. (PVC is actually hard and brittle so to make something like a squeezy toy requires the addition of phthalates.) Phthalates don’t bond to plastic, though, so they leach out over time. Babies who suck on teethers containing phthalates will be ingesting a known carcinogen. Baby Center has an excellent list of phthalate names so you can check labels.

I think Bumkins should sell the spoon separately, I barely use Bumkins’ fork.

3 Rules you must follow when giving first food to your children

There are so many ways to introduce and giving the first food to your children. Proper nutrition should be given to improve the nutrition of your child. Said gastro hepatology consultant pediatrician, Dr. Frieda Handayani any method applied must prioritize nutritional needs to support each stage of different growth and development. Errors in feeding can have fatal consequences on children's nutritional conditions, such as eating difficulties and malnutrition.

"The first time feeding a child, there must be many challenges so we must be patient. But it is a child's learning process that must be passed," Dr. Frieda said it.

3 rules that you must understand when giving your child the first meal.

1. Schedule

Mother can provide healthy food and snacks to children regularly. We recommend do not offer other snacks at meals except drinking.

The meal schedule can adjust by age of the child. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), ages 6 to 8 months, the frequency of eating is around 2 to 3 times a day. Meanwhile, at the age of 9 to 23 months, children can eat 3 to 4 times a day.

2. Environment

Create a pleasant atmosphere when children eat. Also never force children if they refuse to eat, but communicate with them.

The use of gadgets must also be considered. The tendency of children to eat while watching videos from gadgets is now done by many parents in order to let children want to eat. But this is so wrong, parents!!

"Not only not good in terms of psychology, children who are given gadgets are just bothering them to learn about the taste and texture of food," said Dr. Frieda.

Also avoid to give rewards or gifts to children whenever they finish their meal. For example, parents promised them to give sweets after they finish their meal. If children is rewarded with a gift, they not eating because of necessity but because they want a gift. This kind of thing is not good for their development, parents.

3. Procedure

Prioritize children to eat first and drink after finish meal. If they don’t want to eat and start to turning their head away, crying, and closing their mouth, try to keep offering food again.

But remember, don't forced. Offer food neutral as usual.

"Keep trying for 10 to 15 minutes, and if they till do not want to eat, stop the eating process," said Dr. Frieda.

The process of feeding children, Dr. Frieda said, does require extra patience. Besides being patient, feeding them is also a bonding time with children, a period of learning and loving. Don’t forget to invite them to communicate, for example you can tell a story while introducing food.

Baby's first solid food

Many important developmental stages have been achieved by babies in first year of their life. Babies throughout the world have the same stages of development, but they may experience it at a different time. So, what kind of abilities that will they develop from the age of 0-12 months?

1. Smile

After two months of staying up and crying, at around 2 months baby finally able to smile at you. When hearing familiar voice of their Mommy and Daddy or when you tell them your jokes, they will response you by smiling.

2. Laugh

If you are getting bored with the baby's cry, be patient a little because at the age of 4 months, the little one will make another sound, they start to laugh! When you play "peek-a-boo", tickling or putting on a funny face, then come great laughter.

As a new parents, you might being really protective of you kids. You are afraid of choking issue, so you may always feed your children. Of course I know every parents might have different perception about self-feeding for children, let we discuss the importance of allowing children to be in charge of their own feeding and learn how to listen to their bodies, it is also called BLW (baby-led weaning).

This article will let you know why you should stop feeding them and let your little one self-feeding, and yes, letting them self-feeding definitely worth the mess.

Why baby self-feeding is worth the mess?

Learning to eat alone (self-feeding) must be trained early so that the child is active in various things later. When a child is able to grasp something it's good to let them eat by themselves so that his fingers are stimulated.

Children who learn to grab food and put it in their mouths are expected to be more skilled in using their hands for other positive activities such as coloring or drawing.

The more they learns to hold, after a long time their fine motor muscles or small muscles become stronger. When they gets bigger, we stimulate him to self-feeding using a utensils according to his size, and then he gets more skilled, which means he gets stronger again.

Finger foods

In BLW method there is mentioned about letting your children observe food by their own. Soft, bite-sized pieces of food that are easy for baby to pick up and mash between his gums or teeth. Using utensils

Technically there is no right or wrong about giving children use utensils to self-feeding, as long as utensils was made for children, like Grabease.
