Toy industry's may be thanking to pandemic

Parents pointed to loss of income and uncertain economic climate as two factors that would require them to rethink some of their spending even when stores reopen their doors.  Just another factor certain to affect toy sales this year.

So what steps can toy makers take to head off these challenges?  They must do what they do best: turn to new bells and whistles and think outside the box.

  1. Toy brands should turn to new ways to engage moms and kids which allow them to interact with their toys.

  2. Leveraging influencers to host in-home playdates that allow kids to touch and play with the hottest new toy while moms look on is just one way.

  3. It might also include product demonstrations in driveways and cul-de-sacs, or the seamless integration of social media with platforms that really matter to moms.

Now is the time for toy makers to be as innovative with their marketing as they are with their new products.  With a little creativity and strategic thinking, toy makers have the opportunity to navigate the shift in family toy buying that’s headed their way.

Building blocks

In late April, sales of Legos were up 64% year over year on eBay Australia, and rose as high as 92% one Sunday night. Basic Fun, the maker of Lite-Brite, Lincoln Logs, and K’nex—old-school toys that require users to think creatively and put things together with their bare hands—has also seen sales soar. Chief Executive Jay Foreman told the New York Post that the company had its best first quarter ever this year.

3 Things you must know before buying Loulou silicone bibs

Everyone knows that babies need bibs. But it probably wasn’t until you actually reached of parenthood that you realized just how necessary bibs are. When it comes to BLW, you need keeping food off your baby or toddler’s adorable outfit, any bib is better than nothing. But options that are easy to wash and keep food from ending up in her lap or on her arms are your best bet.

Are Loulou LOLLIPOP silicone bibs worth it?

A few months ago, I introduced solid foods to my daughter. I first fed him purées with a spoon, but after she started grabbing the bowl and reaching out for any food in sight, I incorporated baby-led feeding into the mix, giving her pieces of soft vegetables that she could pick up and feed herself. Thanks to countless videos on the social media, I knew that when babies feed themselves, food flies everywhere. A good bib—with a pocket to catch at least some of what didn't make it into my daughter’s mouth.

Silicone bibs are soft, flexible and waterproof. They can also be wiped clean after mealtime. Most have a lip or pocket at the bottom to catch food that your little one drops so it doesn’t end up on her lap.

I’ve used Loulou LOLLIPOP for 2 months now, I personally love the printed one better than the regular one. I feel that the printed bibs have a bigger and wider pocket, I can catch a lot of food that didn’t make it into my daughter’s mouth. So, for me it is totally worth it!

How many silicone bibs do you actually need to own?

You could probably get by with just one, but it’s never a bad idea to have an extra bib or two around for backup. For newborns who only have some occasional drool or spit up, five bibs may be enough to last the week. For babies who really crank out the drool or spit up, though, you might go through five bibs a day.

So how many bibs do you actually need to own for those messy little eaters? The answer depends on your own family's needs. I have around 5 silicone bibs.

Why Loulou LOLLIPOP silicone bibs?

If your older baby or toddler always tears off bibs with velcro closures, try this. The button closure is more likely to stay put, plus the adjustable buttons are designed to fit kids up to age 3. And if you’re not a fan of the typical baby colors, you’ll be psyched to hear that these bibs come in soothing earth tones like beige, olive and marble. They also have the printed one, which I very like.

A molded, catch-all pouch and easy, wipe-down surface makes for quick cleaning. With reinforced buttonholes for a durable, adjustable fit, this handy bib is available in an array of modern colors and fresh designs to complement baby’s wardrobe.

  • 100% food grade silicone

  • bib catch-all pouch to collect crumbs

  • Free of BPA, PVC, phthalates, lead and cadmium

  • Ages: 3-36 months

  • Top rack dishwasher safe

At last, I had two main concerns with the material and make of the bib - Is it actually waterproof? And how easy is it to clean? We favored bibs that could easily be cleaned in the sink and that dried quickly.Tell me your story about your kids and your bibs.

Make believe, also known as pretend play, is a loosely structured form of play that generally includes role-play, object substitution and nonliteral behavior. Pretend play is not only associated with developing general cognitive abilities and reinforcing existing knowledge, but recent research has been investigating how children learn new knowledge during pretend play.

When children participate in pretend play, they are integrating and strengthening previously acquired knowledge. Children who have better pretense and fantasy abilities also show better social competence, cognitive capabilities, and an ability to take the perspective of others.

SUYON kids-friendly nail polish review - What make it different from other nail polish?

When I first received SUYON kids-friendly nail polish, I can’t wait to try it. My 5 years daughter like to have her nail being take care by the expert, I can see the joy in her face every time I took her to menicure and have her nail polished. And I found out SUYON in the internet, before bought SUYON, I also have many thoughts about what make SUYON different from other kids-friendly nail polish brand on the market?

I purchased different brands to give as gifts for my daughter and paint my nails as well. However, my excitement immediately turned into disappointment. The ingredients might be safe, but the quality and designs did not quite match my expectations. It simply seemed like an imitation of typical adult nail polishes that were labeled for children. Now, after weeks of trial, I can tell you why we love SUYON.

Now I can make sure that your little princess can have the most adorable and shiny nails with the SUYON nail polish which are not only dazzling, but also 100% healthy!

— Suyon

SUYON pros and cons

SUYON is quite new comparing to a lot of nail polish brands on the market, it is started on 2018, a Canadian brand. I thought this is why their product can be this good, they must have observed and did improvements, lol. I bought SUYON from Amazon, the rating is 4.7 star.

SUYON pros

  • What I love most about SUYON is their cute bottle cap, a very nice design, very easy for little hand to hold.

  • I like that the polish can easily be peeled off. There isn't a need for any special remover. And easy to peel without pulling off your nails. Comes off in water, but I took it to bath and no problem, but if I do the dishes, it will be ragged a bit, especially on the edge.

  • It stays on well and has no toxic odor. Goes on easily, it takes a while to air dry, so you need to be careful.

  • SUYON is made in France, where all the world’s famous make up produce.

  • Do you know that each SUYON nail polish character even have their own bio? I can even use it for story-telling time :)

  • SUYON complies the strictest worldwide safety regulations: FDA, Europe and Japan Safety requirements. Even the expecting mother can use it.

SUYON-1
SUYON-2

SUYON cons

  • It requires two or three coats for good coverage.

  • The price was a bit pricey than other brands.

  • My sister told me that the brush was too short, but for me is okay.

Other kids-friendly nail polish pros and cons

Like I said, I’ve tried many kids friendly nail polish before I finally found SUYON, such as Nailmatic nail polish (a France brand), Zoo nail polish (a Taiwanese brand), Shu Shu and Sassy (a Korean brand). Here are what I think of their pros and cons, based on my daughter and my experience.

Nailmatic.jpg
ZOO.jpeg

Other kids-friendly nail polish pros

  • The price might lower than SUYON, there are lots of kids-friendly nail polish choices on the market, you can choose according to your budget.

Shu Shu and Sassy.jpg

Other kids-friendly nail polish cons

  • The bottle cap design is not as easy as SUYON’s for little kids to handle.

  • Some of them too easy to peel off :( and some of them are taking soooo much time to dry, my daughter doesn’t have that patience.

Summary

SUYON’s products are no ordinary nail paints. They are creatively designed to inspire the little ones through their friendly animals. The clever creatures are ready to teach your kid a thing or two about life. They make makeover games safe and fun by providing products that are kid-friendly.

Unlike all those low-quality girl nail polish sets that may contain harmful chemicals, our mom-approved kid-friendly nail polish set is 100% water-based, eco-friendly and non-toxic! As a result, you can rest assured that your girl’s delicate nails and fingers are safe!

Unboxing Newmero - A fun way to let your children falling in love with math

Do you remember how you felt when you were learning mathematics? Memorizing formulas, writing them over and over but don’t understand it. This is the way we generally learn mathematics. In the development of young children, mathematics has always been an ability that everyone sees important. Mathematics also represents the M part of Math.

In one of Gurganus‘s study, he said that the more keen child's sense of number, the more conceptual the quantity and number calculation will be. Many studies have also pointed out that in the learning process, children must diversify their learning through direct contact, such as games, which can strengthen their motivation to learn and make him remember more deeply.

To learn mathematics, is it really necessary to learn in such a boring way? There is an interesting invention called Newmero in Denmark, a building block invented specifically to help kids learn mathematics. Very interesting, right?

Newmero is a compound word, new + numero (number number in French). It is a brand-new building block teaching aid specially designed for children who do not understand the concept of math. Children's acceptance of building blocks is very high, thus the founder designed a building block to let children easily understand the concept of mathematics from their textbook, and combined with the teaching plan, so that Newmero's unique shape and color can easily let children learn mathematics through games.

For example, when kids does not understand which number is bigger between 11 and 7? The concept of 534 turns out to be 500+30+4. When we write numbers on paper or blackboard, this kind of blunt learning can easily make children uninterested, but what if it becomes a building block? It is completely different!

Newmero-2

What's amazing is that since its development in 2016, Newmero has almost swept the world's awards, including even the awards selected by teachers.

Newmero-3

Why Newmero has design like this?

Newmero building block teaching aid looks very simple, but not as simple as its appearance, it also allows children to develop their own problem-solving skills. Newmero is divided into seven characteristic parts:

Newmero-4

A. Left jig saw pattern

B. Counting knobs

C. Numeral value

D. Bottom edge

E. Stacking/connector knob

F. Right jig saw pattern

G. Back side

There are many ways to use, for example:

Understanding the value

The symbol 5 combined with the counting knobs on top of the brick makes it easy to understand 5 and its value.

Newmero-5

The relationship between numbers

Which is larger and how are numbers related and sorted? Simply stack the bricks on top of each other using the connector knob and the counting knobs will provide guidance.

Newmero-6

Which numbers are friends of 10?

Two bricks that “bonds to 10” fit together along the jigsaw pattern like a puzzle on the side. 2 and 8 show the match on the picture. The bricks can also do “Bonds to 100” and “Bonds to 1000”!

Newmero-7

If they are not friend of 10, why?

The bricks can also explain where to look for the answer. Simply place them back against back and the bricks will explain where to look for the answer. Do you need a smaller or bigger number to find the friend of 10?

Newmero-8

What is the structure of multidigit numbers?

Simply build numbers as staircases using the connector knob. Composing and decompose numbers physically. 3526 is simply a 3000, 500, 20 and a 6.

Newmero-9

What can Newmero teach?

A. Play with numbers

For example, in kindergarten we can teach like this

1. From one to ten

  • Identify numbers and quantities

  • Learn to count from 1 to 10, then from 10 to 1

  • Number sequencing and sorting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5,…)

  • Number recognition (associate the symbol of numbers to the sound/name of the numbers)

  • Even or odd numbers

2. From one to twenty

  • Identify numbers-numbers and quantities

  • Learn to count from 1 to 20, then from 20 to 1

  • Number sequencing and sorting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5,…)

  • Number recognition (associate the symbol of numbers to the sound/name of the numbers)

3. Numbers over 20

  • Count 10, 20, 30... learn about the multiple of 10

  • Learn how to count from 20 to 100

4. Skip number

5. Comparing numbers

6. Patterns and colors

  • Recognize the color pattern and continue to add bricks

7. Exercises for addition

  • The counting knobs on top of the bricks help to make the addition

8. Add two numbers together to equal 10

  • The Newmero bricks fit together if the numbers are right. If the child chose to put together wrong Friends of 10, then the Newmero bricks will not fit like a puzzle

9. Practice simple subtraction

10. Buy and sell games

  • Use Newmero as money and practice buying and selling games

Newmero-10

B. Play with colors

Newmero has a total of four colors of orange, green, yellow and blue, through

1. Use the concept of number to learn about logical thinking

Newmero-11

2. Color grouping: combining the same colors together

Newmero-12

C. Games

I thought Newmero is a very serious teaching tool, I don’t expect that there are actually a lot of games that can be played with Newmero, you can use Newmero blocks to build an animal.

Newmero-13

Or use it to play domino.

Newmero-14

Where can I use Newmero?

1. At home

Let's take a look at the video, we know that learning mathematics can become so visual and so simple

2. School

Newmero-16

Newmero adapts to all existing math curriculums. In kindergarten, training children to work together is also one of the important lessons. Newmero also has Large pack, Small pack, School pack and Kindergarten pack, which is suitable for everyone to practice in the classroom. The founder of Newmero suggested that 4-5 children should be grouped together, and they can also compete in mathematics with each other, which is very interesting! There are also lesson plans for teachers to download.

Are you ready for a new normal? See how COVID-19 create a new normal

We already been living together with COVID-19 for almost three months. Are you ready for a new normal? Following are the predictions from many sources regarding changes in new normal during and after COVID-19 passes.

Content:

| What will new normal might look like

| The new normal behavior might look like this…

| How we can adapt our business

| Conclusion

Experts had a few suggestions on what the new normal might look like

Wearing a mask everywhere

While a growing number of countries mandate mask-wearing, and dozens of other academics are urging all governments to require their citizens wear cloth masks in all public places.

School safety

Increasing the frequency of cleaning, reducing the used of shared items. Reducing the size of classes and keeping children in small groups without mixing with others.

Bowing or waving hand instead of shaking hands and hugging

Traditions that have lasted for centuries will be extinct by the existence of COVID-19. With the social distancing and contact-free lifestyle that emerged because of COVID-19, we no longer shake hands to avoid the spread of the deadly virus.

Air pollution sharply fell

The busiest city of New York, for example, with a traffic pandemic reduced by 35%, carbon monoxide pollution fell sharply by 50%, and CO2 pollution fell by 10%, as well as methane pollution. In China, only in the span of 2 weeks after the lockdown of energy use and emissions fell by 25%, thus cutting 1% of the total cumulative carbon emissions in China.

Predictions in the new normal behavior

The fall of mobility, the rise of stay at home

COVID-19 practically stop mobility and force people to stay at home. COVID-19 crisis brought humans back to ancient times where they lived only in caves, which means home for us. Welcome to stay at home economy.

Online-shopping widening and deepening: from wants to needs

Online shopping began to shift from products that are desires or wants to products that are the needs. Online shopping customers will widening from buying non-essential goods online to buy daily need. And will deepening where the volume of purchases is getting bigger.

The comeback of home cooking

Having enough free time at home during a pandemic provides an opportunity for you to hone a new skill that is cooking. People said that millennial “kills” home cooking because millennial moms lose their cooking ability. But apparently COVID-19 "turned it on" again. Yes, it is time for me to learn how to cook with my child.

Online + home-schooling

COVID-19 triggers two trends at once in the learning process. First online learning or online-schooling using a digital platform. Secondly the role of parents is increasingly large in the child's learning process (home-schooling). I call these two trends: "online + home-schooling". Online + home-schooling is fundamentally changing the face of the world of education going forward, you will need more and more educational toy, while you working at home, your child will also have their time to learn by playing.

How we can adapt the new normal to our business

Get online, if you haven’t already

If you had been contemplating about bringing your business online, now is the best time to do so. As people are locked up in their homes, they tend to spend more time online rather than watch television. Get yourself started by creating a website (with content that holds weight).

Picture taken from Google

Use the best collaboration tools

Organizations are using all kinds of collaboration tools such as Teams, Slack, Skype, etc. for daily virtual meetings. This helps in increasing team intimacy and keeping everyone in good spirits.

Reach out to others in the industry

Leverage your virtual tools to reach out to others in your domain or industry. For example, a few high-end luxury brands are making vital medical wear (like scrubs and gowns), and others are following suit.

Hold on to clients

Understanding your customers and how they’re changing, here, communicating proactively is the key. Like with everything else in life, remote working also comes with its own gaps, which should be bridged regularly by maintaining a connect with your customers. Inform them of the situation at your end, whether you need to close shop, or the delayed shipments. Provide your services and solutions remotely. Use social media to the fullest. Live stream a prototype, a product launch, and invite questions just the way you would anyway do.

Conclusion

Eventually we will overcome the coronavirus crisis. But the changes left in its wake will be permanent. It is imperative to take steps now to prepare for the new normal because this is the time when customers are forming their habits for years to come.

The story begins when a little monkey’s bananas are stolen by gorilla. The children need to help the monkey get all the bananas back, but they will encounter some obstacles and checkpoints along the way. Starting from the simplest level, there is a treasure chest in front of the little monkey. What instruction should you give to the monkey to get the treasure chest? At this time, you can click “arrow”, an arrow represents a step, and also represents the direction. As shown in the figure below, the monkey wants to "take a step to the left", so click on the left arrow ⬅️, and get the treasure chest.

KiddiKutter kid-safe knife, cuts food not fingers!

One of the best family bonding activity is cooking, but is it safe to let children around kitchen? I totally understand that the idea of giving children under the age of 10 a knife of any kind seemed dangerous. Today we would like to give a special introduction to KiddiKutter because we received so many questions about “What is the best knife for kid?”, “Is there any recommended kid-safe knife?”. Let me tell you about that..

Kid-safe knife types

1. Safety knife

Slightly older children (think: 3- to 5-year-olds) can be introduced to safety knives. Many of these knives have real metal blades with a flat blunt edge. They make easy work of most fruits and vegetables, save for hard squashes and watermelon rinds. This is a good knife to practice safe knife holding and handling.

2. Nylon knife

Start really young cooks off with a nylon knife set, which mimics the weight, shape, and feel of a chef’s knife without the sharp edge. The serrated edge makes cutting bread, cheese, soft fruit, and vegetables possible.

3. Small Santoku

A smaller knife with a sharp edge is the perfect in-between knife for children 6 to 10 years old. Their hands aren’t quite large enough for a full-sized chef’s knife, but they have the hand-eye coordination required to yield a real knife blade.

About KiddiKutter

When Maria Georgiou’s son was three, he asked if he could help in the kitchen. But because he had dyspraxia (clumsy child syndrome), handing him a knife was courting disaster. However, this sparked an idea. In 2000, Maria began looking for a solution that would allow little ones to assist in the kitchen. KiddiKutter was born. With worldwide trademarks, the children’s knife has passed strict European and Australian safety certifications to ensure it’s safe and nontoxic to use with food, something other companies have not done.

Maria has been nicknamed the ‘accidental entrepreneur’ as a one-woman business success, and as a result has made it through as a finalist in, The Housewares Innovation Awards 2019, England.

In today’s modern world, promoting a healthy diet amongst children is more important than ever. One of the best places to spark your little one’s imagination is by letting them join you in the kitchen. As a parent, it’s natural to worry about sharp tools. With KiddiKutter, you can have a safe family bonding time.

KiddiKutter cuts food not fingers!

Children love to help in the kitchen cutting up their own food and help preparing dinner. They can learn so much in the kitchen including, maths and chemistry, not to mention improving their fine motor skills cutting small pieces of fruit or vegetables. Using KiddiKutter knives will also improve hand eye coordination.

KiddiKutters will cut most food that a sharp knife will but by using a sawing action. Always remember, they are not sharp, so KiddiKutters don’t chop.

Kiddikutter is now NDIS approved.

As with any activity involving small children, we advise that there is some adult supervision. KiddiKutters have proven useful for both children and adults with special needs, in particular  Autism and visual impairment. They are great to carry in your nappy-bag for cutting up fruit and nibbles while you having picnic.

10 Best Experience Gifts for Kids (And Why They're Better Than Toys)

As parents, we often default to giving toys as gifts. But in a world full of clutter, have you ever considered giving an experience instead? Experience gifts—from museum memberships to sporting passes—give your children more than just another object for their playroom. They create memories, build new skills, and provide fun for the entire family. It’s a win-win!

Here are 10 of our favorite experience gifts that will be cherished long after a toy has been forgotten.

10 Awesome Experience Gifts for Kids

We all know trampolining is fun, but it's also a fantastic physical outlet. As kids bounce, their bodies get a great workout, which increases energy levels and makes them feel more alert and happy! A pass to an indoor trampoline park is the perfect gift for a rainy day.

3. Zoo or Aquarium Membership

A membership often comes with unlimited express entry for a full year. It’s a gift that keeps on giving, allowing for spontaneous afternoon trips to see the animals and learn about the natural world.

4. A Trip to a Bookstore to Pick Out New Books

Reading with your child promotes brain development and imagination. Make it an event! A "gift certificate" for a special trip to a local bookstore lets your child be the decision-maker, empowering them to choose the books that spark their curiosity.

5. Local or National Park Passes

A park pass encourages a full year of outdoor adventures. Exploring nature has profound benefits for a child's well-being, and it provides a beautiful, screen-free backdrop for making family memories.

Whether it's a theme park, a water park, or a local children's discovery center, a season pass turns a one-time treat into a recurring source of joy and excitement for the whole family.

Easter craft

Salt painted Easter egg

What do you need?

  1. Salt, regular cooking salt is okay

  2. White glue

  3. Watercolor paper

  4. Watercolor

  5. Watercolor brush

How to make it?

Take a piece of watercolor paper, use a pencil to draw a few colorful egg outline on the paper, then use white glue to squeeze along the outline, and then sprinkle with salt to make it adhere to the white glue. After its dried, remove the excess salt. Then color with watercolors and you're done!

You will see the colorful colors spread out between the salt and the salt, and after the different colors are compatible, they will form more beautiful colors. The process is really fun.

Egg for decoration

Using stick and paste, you can also create unique Easter eggs! I like the idea of this transparent egg very much. Children can put any collage pattern or related elements on the transparent paper card, and then hangs it by the window as a decoration. The sunlight shines from the transparent egg even more beautiful!

What do you need?

  1. Transparent L-shape file holder

  2. Sika paper (pick your favorite color)

  3. Various art materials and stickers

How to make it?

To make a beautiful egg decoration is very simple, first of all, how big do you want to make? Or one large and one small, and then cut out the egg size with transparent paper according your preference, and then let the children create freely!

After finishing, you can wrap the edge of the egg with sika paper to make it more complete and beauty, finally make a hole to become a pendant! I look forward to seeing the colorful egg pendants in the living room!

How to Choose Your Baby's First Cloth Book: A Guide for Parents

Editor's Note:

This guide has been updated to be a comprehensive resource for parents on choosing the best first book for their baby. We've also added a new section on how to continue fostering a love of reading as your child grows.

There are many types of books you can introduce to your baby, but cloth books are undoubtedly the best first choice. Why do so many parents recommend them? A cloth book is durable, easy to clean, and provides a rich, multi-sensory experience that is perfect for developing minds.

Choosing the right cloth book is the first step in building a lifelong love of reading.

The Benefits of Cloth Books

1. The Perfect Introduction to Reading

A cloth book teaches a child the fundamentals of what a book is. They can learn how to hold it, how to turn the pages, and that stories are found inside. It's the perfect, indestructible training tool.

2. A Rich, Multi-Sensory Experience

High-quality cloth books are designed to stimulate a baby's senses. Bright, contrasting colors engage their vision, while different textures, crinkly pages, and built-in squeakers captivate their sense of touch and hearing. This multi-sensory input helps a baby's brain make crucial connections.

3. They Are Durable and Reusable

Made of fabric, a cloth book is designed to withstand a baby's enthusiastic "love"—which often includes chewing, drooling, and throwing. If it gets dirty, you can simply toss it in the washing machine. It’s a toy that provides quiet, independent play time again and again.

4. It Creates Moments for Family Bonding

Reading together, even with a simple cloth book, builds confidence, teaches children about interacting with others, and creates wonderful memories that last a lifetime. Pointing to pictures and naming objects is a simple but powerful way to connect.

How to Choose the Best Cloth Book: 4 Features to Look For

The most important thing is to choose a book that attracts your baby's interest. Look for these engaging features:

1. Interactive Sounds

Babies are delighted by cause and effect. Choose books that have pages that make a rustling or crinkling sound when touched. Some books also feature hidden squeakers or air buttons that make a sound when pressed. These sounds encourage a baby to turn the pages and explore.

2. Three-Dimensional and Tactile Elements

A book with different textures or a 3D pop-out element (like an animal's tail or a puppet) can delight a child the moment they turn the page. These tactile features make the book a more engaging and memorable experience.

3. A Built-in Mirror

Babies are fascinated by faces, especially their own! A small, baby-safe mirror inside a cloth book is a guaranteed way to capture their curiosity and encourage self-recognition.

4. Interactive Games and Activities

The best cloth books include simple activities. Look for flaps that can be lifted, ribbons that can be pulled, or simple buckles that can be manipulated. These small games develop fine motor skills and increase a child's interest in the book.

The Next Chapter: From Sensory Books to First Puzzles

As your child's love for books grows, you can begin to introduce them to the world of high-quality puzzles and beautifully illustrated picture books. This is the perfect next step in their developmental journey.

  • For this stage, we highly recommend the award-winning puzzles and games from Mudpuppy. Known for their museum-quality artwork and eco-friendly materials, Mudpuppy products cultivate a child’s aesthetic appreciation from day one. Their "Pouch Puzzles" are perfect for toddlers, helping them develop problem-solving skills and hand-eye coordination while enjoying stunning art.

Every child's interests are different, but we hope these points help you find the perfect book to start your child on a lifelong journey of reading and learning.

5 Easy and Fun Sensory Activities for Toddlers at Home

Editor's Note:

This article was originally written to help families during the global pandemic. We have updated it to be a timeless resource for any parent looking for fun, screen-free ways to keep their children engaged at home, whether it's a rainy day, a school holiday, or just a quiet afternoon.

How do we keep our young children busy, learning, and happy at home, especially when there isn't much space to run around? The answer is sensory play! One fun activity per day can keep the stress away and create wonderful bonding moments.

Did you know that when a child uses two or more senses at the same time, their brain works more optimally to absorb and store new information? That's why experts agree that multi-sensory activities are a more productive and beneficial alternative to screen time.

The best part? All of the following activities can be done with simple materials you likely already have at home.

5 Multi-Sensory Activities for Children Under 3

1. Edible Finger Painting

This is often a child's first art project and a perfect multi-sensory activity. It introduces textures, colors, and even tastes! Because younger children love to put everything in their mouths, it's best to DIY an edible paint that is completely safe.

How to make it: Simply mix cornstarch with water until you have a smooth consistency, then divide it into a few cups and add a different drop of food coloring to each. Voila! You have a safe, vibrant paint ready for little hands to explore.

2. "Dinosaur Dig" Treasure Hunt

This activity is perfect for introducing letters and concepts while playing. Fill a bucket or storage container with clean sand, uncooked rice, or dried pasta. Hide some small dinosaur toys within the sand. For an extra learning step, you can stick letters on them (e.g., the letter 'D') and have your child group them as they find them. This simple game teaches texture, discovery, and early literacy skills.

3. Water Balloon Bath

Make bath time even more fun and educational! Fill several colored balloons with water. In the tub, your child can explore the balloons, introducing a rich vocabulary of descriptive words: slippery, smooth, heavy, light, squishy. This turns a routine activity into a fun sensory lesson.

4. Creative Play with Rice

Rice is a fantastic and inexpensive alternative to sand for sensory bins. To make it even more exciting, you can color it by shaking a cup of rice with a few drops of food coloring and a teaspoon of vinegar (the vinegar smell will disappear as it dries).

You can use your colorful rice for all kinds of activities:

  • Bury "treasure" like small toys or blocks for a treasure hunt.

  • Pour it into clear plastic bottles to make colorful shakers.

  • Simply let your child run their hands through it to enjoy the texture and sound.

5. Jello Dig

This activity turns snack time into a productive and exciting sensory experience. Simply make a batch of gelatin (Jello) as usual, but before it sets, add large pieces of fruit (like mandarin orange segments or berries) or other edible, baby-safe objects. Your child will love digging through the jiggly, cool texture to find the treats inside. It stimulates all their senses and fills their tummy at the same time!

6. Explore with Open-Ended Sensory Toys

Not all sensory play has to be a messy DIY project! Some of the world's best toys are specifically designed to engage a child's senses in an open-ended way.

  • For pure sensory exploration, nothing beats the Swiss-designed toys from MOLUK. Their products are made from high-quality, food-grade silicone with unique, tactile shapes. They can be spinning tops, bath toys, or stackable objects, encouraging play that is driven by a child's own curiosity.

  • For a different kind of tactile building, the flexible magnetic pieces from Clixo click and bend in satisfying ways, merging the art of origami with construction.

  • The simple, single-shape design of Plus-Plus provides a wonderfully tactile experience as children connect the pieces to create 2D mosaics or 3D structures.

It turns out it's not difficult to create multi-sensory activities at home. While they might get a little messy, the developmental benefits and the joyful memories you create are absolutely worth it.

6 Points to prevent potential risks of using teethers

  • Carefully read the product instructions and warnings, and clean as instructed.

  • Carefully inspect children while they’re using it. If any damage or liquid leakage is found, discard it immediately.

  • If congestion occurs in young children, send them to hospital immediately for medical treatment.

7 Truly Useful Gift Ideas for a Newborn Baby

We give gifts as symbols to rejoice in shared happiness. When a friend or family member welcomes a new baby, it's a wonderful tradition to celebrate the arrival of their little angel. But giving gifts for a newborn has its own challenges; you want to give something that is not only thoughtful but genuinely useful.

Here are 7 truly useful gift ideas that new parents will appreciate.

1. Diapers: The Most Practical Gift

Diapers are the gift that will always be needed. You can even make this practical gift fun by choosing diapers with cute motifs or creating a "diaper cake." When buying diapers, make sure they are made from soft, absorbent materials and are the appropriate size for the baby's age and weight to ensure a comfortable fit.

2. Breastfeeding & Feeding Support

You can choose feeding equipment according to the needs of the mother and baby. If the mother is breastfeeding, a high-quality nursing pillow can be a lifesaver for her back and posture. If she is pumping or bottle-feeding, extra bottles are always welcome. Look for bottles with anti-colic venting systems and those made from safe, easy-to-clean materials like silicone or glass.

3. A Modern Diaper Bag

Today's diaper bags are both functional and stylish. The best bags have a durable exterior that is easy to wipe clean, plenty of internal pockets for organization, and comfortable shoulder straps. A huge plus is built-in stroller straps that allow you to hang the bag securely from your stroller's handlebar.

4. A Sterilizer for Peace of Mind

Babies have vulnerable immune systems, so keeping their feeding equipment hygienic is crucial. A bottle sterilizer is a gift that makes this daily chore infinitely easier for parents. Instead of boiling water on the stove, parents can simply place bottles, pacifiers, and pump parts into the sterilizer for quick, convenient peace of mind.

5. Simple, High-Quality Baby Clothes

Baby clothing doesn't need to be overly complicated. New parents will most appreciate simple, practical clothes made from 100% cotton that are soft on a baby's sensitive skin. Choose sizes that the baby can grow into (e.g., 3-6 months). Rompers are very practical for easy diaper changes, and sleepsuits or "jumpers" with open feet won't feel restrictive as the baby gets taller.

6. A Breathable Swaddle or Sleep Sack

A large, breathable swaddle blanket made of soft cotton or bamboo is a versatile and much-loved gift. It can be used for swaddling, as a lightweight blanket, a nursing cover, or a car seat cover. Especially in warmer climates, a lightweight swaddle is a much better option than a heavy blanket to keep a baby comfortable without overheating.

7. Toys That Support Baby's Development

A gift that can stimulate a baby's sensory and motor development is always a fantastic choice. The best toys for newborns are simple, safe, and engaging.

Look for toys made from baby-safe materials like 100% food-grade silicone, which are perfect for babies who explore everything with their mouths. The best developmental toys are open-ended, meaning they can be played with in many different ways as the child grows.

  • For sensory exploration, consider the beautifully designed toys from MOLUK. Their unique shapes and textures are made from high-quality, food-grade silicone rubber, making them perfect as a baby's first grasping toy and teether.

  • For early building and color recognition, a starter set from Plus-Plus is a great choice. Their larger "BIG" size is safe for small hands and introduces toddlers to the world of creative construction.

When choosing any toy, ensure it has no small parts that could be a choking hazard and that it can be easily cleaned.

5 Screen-Free Activities for Creative Family Fun at Home

Editor's Note:

This article was originally inspired by families spending more time at home during the global pandemic. We have since updated it to be a timeless guide for any day you're looking for fun, screen-free ways to connect as a family, be it a rainy weekend, a school holiday, or just a quiet afternoon.

In a world full of screens, creating moments for hands-on, imaginative play is more important than ever. It's easy to turn on the TV, but when you need to keep your children engaged and prevent crankiness, nothing beats a creative activity. Taking the time to play together isn't just about passing time; it's an opportunity for family bonding and powerful developmental learning.

Here are 5 of our favorite screen-free activities to spark creativity at home.

Activity 1: The Magic of Building Blocks

Open-ended building toys are a must-have. They can be played with for hours with just a little imagination, becoming houses, towers, bridges, or cars. The benefits are immense:

  • Developing imagination and storytelling skills.

  • Practicing patience and problem-solving.

  • Building self-confidence with every successful creation.

  • Learning concepts of shape, size, balance, and color.

Recommended Toys:

  • Plus-Plus: This brilliantly simple, single-shape piece is like a physical pixel. It's perfect for creating both 2D mosaics and intricate 3D structures, helping children develop fine motor skills and spatial reasoning. (www.plus-plus.com)

  • MOLUK: These are the ultimate open-ended toys. With no defined purpose, a MOLUK toy could be a spinning top, a mountain for a car, or a hat for a doll. They force kids to be creative and think abstractly. (www.moluk.com)

Activity 2: Popsicle Stick Color Matching

This simple DIY game is incredibly valuable and costs next to nothing. All you need are some craft sticks and colored markers or paper.

Create "popsicles" out of colored paper and cut a slit in the top. Color the end of each craft stick to match one of the paper popsicles. Have your toddler choose a stick, identify the color, and then "insert" it into the matching paper popsicle. It's a fun, hands-on way to practice color recognition and fine motor skills. Pretend licking of the finished popsicle is highly encouraged!

Activity 3: Scissor Skills Cutting Practice

This activity provides a safe, controlled environment for your toddler to practice the important skill of cutting.

On a piece of paper, draw simple shapes or lines (straight, zig-zag, wavy). Give your child a pair of child-safe scissors and let them practice cutting along the lines. They may need help holding the paper or opening and closing the scissors at first, but try to let them do as much as they can on their own. It’s a fantastic way to build hand strength and coordination.

Activity 4: Host a Fashion Show

Many children love to express themselves through dress-up. Turn this into an event! Let them experiment with their clothes and accessories to create unique outfits. You can help with face paint or a touch of kid-friendly makeup.

Then, create a "catwalk" in your living room, dim the lights, and play some upbeat music to make it feel like a real show. For an extra layer of creativity, use cardboard and Makedo tools to build a custom runway, cool props, or even wearable accessories!

Activity 5: Build an Epic Fort

The classic blanket fort is a childhood rite of passage for a reason! Drape bed linens over chairs, couches, and tables to create a cozy, temporary playhouse.

To take your fort-building to the next level, introduce a toolset specifically designed for cardboard construction, like Makedo. Using the kid-safe saws and connectors, you and your child can use recycled cardboard boxes to engineer incredible, life-sized structures—from castles and tunnels to spaceships and storefronts. It teaches real construction principles and turns imagination into a tangible creation they can actually play inside. (www.make.do)

It turns out that preparing fun, educational activities for your children doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. We hope these ideas inspire many happy hours of family fun. Good luck
