The Great Play Shift: Why Modern Toys Are About Building Skills, Not Just Entertainment

Take a look at the classic toybox of the past. It was often filled with colorful plastic objects that beeped, booped, and lit up. A character would sing a song at the press of a button. A toy car would race when you pulled it back. These were toys of entertainment, designed for a single purpose, a single outcome.

Today, a quiet but powerful revolution is happening in our living rooms and classrooms. The definition of a "good toy" has fundamentally changed.

Modern parents and educators now understand that the most valuable play happens not when a child is passively entertained, but when they are actively creating, problem-solving, and inventing. The best toys are no longer just objects; they are tools for thinking.

At BabyLux, we have been at the forefront of this evolution. After more than a decade of curating the best products for families, we have dedicated our expertise to championing this new generation of toys, play systems designed to build the essential skills our children will need to thrive in the future.

Here is what the great play shift looks like.

The Decline of the "Single-Purpose Toy"

The old model of toys was based on consumption. The toy performed, and the child watched. While fun for a moment, this passive play has a short lifespan because it has a low "play value." Once the single function is understood, the toy is no longer interesting.

The Rise of the "Play System"

The new model of toys is based on creation. These are not just toys; they are systems of components that offer infinite possibilities. They don't have a single outcome; they have a million potential outcomes, limited only by a child's imagination. This is where true learning and skill-building happen.

We see this new paradigm taking shape in three key areas:

1. The Engineering & Construction System

These toys teach children to think like engineers, building resilience, spatial reasoning, and real-world problem-solving skills.

  • For Grand-Scale Invention: The ultimate example is Makedo. It’s a toolset that gives children the power to transform discarded cardboard into anything they can imagine—a life-sized fort, a robot costume, a race car. It teaches resourcefulness and structural engineering on a scale that is immediate and tangible.

  • For Precision & Architectural Thinking: At the other end of the spectrum are systems built on a single, brilliant component. Plus-Plus uses one simple shape to create everything from complex 2D mosaics to intricate 3D models. Similarly, the flexible, magnetic pieces from Clixo merge the art of origami with the satisfaction of a construction toy, allowing for dynamic, bendable creations.

CLIXO

2. The Abstract & Open-Ended System

These toys are the antidote to a world that demands a single right answer. Their power lies in their simplicity and lack of a defined purpose, which forces a child to be purely creative.

  • The Masterclass in Open-Ended Play: The Swiss-designed toys from MOLUK are the quintessential example. Is the Bilibo a spinning seat, a helmet, a turtle shell, or a cradle for dolls? The answer is "yes." It becomes whatever the child needs it to be, fostering a level of imaginative, abstract thinking that is crucial for innovation.

3. The "Phygital" System: Merging Physical and Digital Play

Modern parents know that screens are a part of life. The challenge is not to ban them, but to transform them from passive entertainment into active learning tools. This is the world of "phygital" (physical + digital) play.

  • For Screen-Free Coding: Sphero indi is genius. It teaches the fundamentals of computational thinking—cause and effect, patterns, and problem-solving—using a fun race car and colored tiles, no screen required.

  • For Augmented Reality Learning: Brands like PlayShifu and Abacus Brands are leaders in using AR and VR to bring learning to life. A globe comes alive with animals and landmarks; a science kit lets you conduct explosive experiments in virtual reality. They turn a tablet into a window for exploring complex subjects in a tangible, exciting way.

An Investment in How They Think

Choosing a toy for your child is no longer just about what will make them smile for a minute. It's an investment in their future. By choosing toys that are systems and tools, you are giving them a playground for their mind. You are helping them build a foundation of creativity, critical thinking, and adaptability—the very skills they will use to build their own future.

At BabyLux, we are proud to be the expert curators of this new world of play.

Sweet Gift Blankets: The Perfect Choice for Warmth and Love

Hello everyone! I have been off writing blog for a while. But today, I want to share a wonderful discovery: Sweet Gift swaddle blankets. These aren't just ordinary blankets; they're thoughtfully designed swaddles that provide both warmth and comfort for newborns.

Honestly, this is a fantastic choice, especially for those looking for a unique and practical present.

For those of you who still don’t know about swaddling, Swaddling is a popular technique that helps babies feel secure and sleep better. It mimics the feeling of being in the womb, which can be incredibly soothing for newborns.

For newborns, this blanket is an absolute must-have! Not only does it provide warmth, but it also becomes a comforting companion as your baby grows. Compared to other generic products on the market, Sweet Gift blankets are thoughtfully designed with love and blessings.

I particularly love the soft and cuddly material they use. It feels so good to touch! The packaging is also exquisite, making it perfect for gifting. The surprise on the recipient's face when they open the gift box is priceless.

Even cooler, Sweet Gift has collaborated with contemporary illustrators and AIGC artists to incorporate elements of "Fu, Lu, Shou, Xi, Hui" (fortune, prosperity, longevity, happiness, wisdom) into their designs. Each blanket is a unique piece of art, infused with traditional Chinese culture. Such a beautiful blanket not only has collectible value but also conveys special blessings.

I've seen this brand on Xiaohongshu and in some baby product stores, and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Many moms highly recommend it. I'm excited to see what other interesting products they'll launch in the future, bringing warmth and blessings to more families. In short, choosing a Sweet Gift blanket is giving your baby the most heartfelt love. If you're looking for a special gift for a baby, look no further than Sweet Gift blankets."

Sweet Gift swaddles are made with soft, breathable materials that are gentle on your baby's delicate skin. They also feature adjustable closures to ensure a snug and comfortable fit.

The Ultimate Checklist: 10 Must-Have Essentials for Baby's First 3 Years

Bringing a new life into the world is a beautiful journey. As your baby grows from a tiny newborn to an adventurous toddler, certain essentials become indispensable. But beyond just "having" the items, knowing what to look for makes all the difference.

This is our definitive guide to the ten must-have items for the first three years, complete with expert tips to help you choose the best for your family.

1. Swaddle Blankets

A swaddle blanket provides comfort and security by mimicking the warmth and coziness of the womb.

  • What to look for: Choose large blankets (at least 47x47 inches) made from soft, breathable materials like bamboo rayon or organic cotton muslin. The stretchiness of these fabrics allows for a snug, secure swaddle that your baby won't easily kick off.

2. Truly Educational Toys

Age-appropriate toys are crucial for stimulating cognitive development. The best toys are open-ended, meaning they can be played with in countless ways.

  • What to look for:

    • For Sensory Exploration: Start with toys made from safe, high-quality materials that engage the senses. The innovative, award-winning toys from MOLUK are perfect, with unique shapes and textures designed to spark a baby's curiosity.

    • For Building and Construction: As your child grows, introduce building toys that develop fine motor skills and spatial reasoning. The single-shape brilliance of Plus-Plus or the flexible magnetic designs of Clixo are fantastic tools for nurturing a budding engineer.

3. High-Quality, Safe Tableware

When you start solids, invest in durable tableware designed for little ones.

  • What to look for: Always choose BPA-free, non-toxic materials like food-grade silicone or bamboo. The most essential feature for bowls and plates is a strong suction base to keep them firmly on the high chair tray, reducing mess and frustration.

4. A Reliable Stroller

A good stroller is your ticket to the outside world.

  • What to look for: Consider a "travel system" for the infant stage, which allows you to click your car seat directly onto the stroller. As your child gets older, you'll also appreciate having a second lightweight, collapsible umbrella stroller for quick trips and travel.

5. A Properly Installed Car Seat

Safety is non-negotiable. A car seat is the most important piece of safety equipment you will buy.

  • What to look for: Ensure the car seat is appropriate for your child's age, weight, and height, and that it is installed correctly in your vehicle according to the manufacturer's instructions. Always start with a rear-facing model.

6. A Well-Organized Diaper Bag

This bag will be your mobile command center.

  • What to look for: Choose a bag with plenty of pockets for organization, a wipeable exterior for easy cleaning, and straps that can attach to your stroller. Remember, you'll be carrying it everywhere, so pick a style you love! For soothing on the go, a pacifier holder like the Queebi Pacibuddy is a diaper bag essential.

7. A Modern Baby Monitor

A baby monitor provides peace of mind and convenience, allowing you to keep an eye on your child while they sleep.

  • What to look for: Modern monitors offer both audio and video capabilities, often streaming directly to an app on your phone. Look for features like night vision, temperature sensors, and two-way talk.

8. Childproofing Supplies

As soon as your baby becomes mobile, your home becomes an obstacle course.

  • What to look for: Start with the basics: outlet covers, cabinet locks, furniture anchors, and safety gates for stairs. Get down on your hands and knees to see the world from your baby's perspective to spot potential hazards.

9. A Convertible Crib

A convertible crib is a smart long-term investment.

  • What to look for: Choose a crib that transforms from a newborn bassinet to a standard crib, and then into a toddler bed. This single piece of furniture can adapt to your child's growth through their first three years and beyond.

10. A Library of Child-Friendly Books

Building a love for reading begins on day one.

  • What to look for: Start with high-contrast board books or soft cloth books for infants. As they grow into toddlers, introduce beautiful picture books and puzzles. The stunning, art-led puzzles and books from Mudpuppy are perfect for cultivating a child's visual literacy and love for reading.

Remember that every child is unique, so your specific needs may vary. These essentials provide a solid foundation for a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment as your baby grows into a curious and active toddler.

Solving the Lost Pacifier: A Guide to the Best Pacifier Holders & Clips

Listening to a crying baby is tough. But the frustration of frantically searching for the one thing that can comfort them—their pacifier—is even tougher. This is why a high-quality pacifier clip or holder isn't a luxury; it's an essential tool for a parent's peace of mind.

But with different types on the market, which should you choose?

Pacifier Clips vs. Plush Holders: What's the Difference and Which Should I Choose?

If you have the budget, our suggestion is to have one of each, as they serve different purposes.

  • Pacifier Clips are perfect for daytime, supervised use. They attach securely to your baby's clothes, car seat, or stroller, keeping the pacifier clean and within reach. Safety is critical: for safety, a pacifier clip's ribbon or tether should never be longer than 7-8 inches to avoid any risk of it wrapping around a baby's neck.

  • Plush Pacifier Holders are the ideal choice for unsupervised time, like in the crib during naps or at night. The soft, plush toy is safe, easy for a baby to find and hold on their own, and provides extra comfort.

The Best Pacifier Holders and Clips for Modern Parents

Instead of a simple list, we've broken down our top picks by what makes them the best in their category.

1. Best for Universal Compatibility: The Queebi Pacibuddy

This is, without a doubt, our top pick for a plush pacifier holder. The Queebi Pacibuddy was specifically designed to solve the biggest problem with other holders: compatibility.

  • The Universal Silicone Ring: Queebi's genius is its patented silicone ring that securely attaches to the widest possible variety of name-brand pacifiers, including those with button knobs (like MAM™ or NUK™) and those with tab handles (like Soothie™). This means parents can use the pacifier their baby already loves.

  • Developmental & Comforting: The soft, plush animal character is easy for little hands to find and grasp, helping babies learn to self-soothe. It's a comforting friend and a developmental toy in one.

  • Safe & Easy to Clean: All Pacibuddy characters are machine washable and made from BPA and Phthalate-free materials, ensuring they are safe for your little one.

2. Best for Teething Relief: The Silicone Beaded Clip

Screen Shot 2019-08-15 at 2.41.25 PM.png

For babies who are teething, a multi-functional clip is a lifesaver.

  • What to look for: A clip where the "chain" is made from soft, chewable, 100% food-grade silicone beads. These beads come in various shapes and textures, providing satisfying relief for sore gums. It's a pacifier clip and a teether in one convenient package. Ensure it has a secure, rust-free plastic clasp.

3. Best for Minimalist Style: The Braided Fabric Clip

For parents who prefer a more understated aesthetic, a simple fabric clip is a perfect choice.

  • What to look for: Look for clips made from high-quality, durable materials like braided nylon or organic cotton. They are lightweight, easy to wash, and come in a wide variety of modern, stylish colors to complement any outfit without being distracting.

4. Best for All-in-One Functionality: The 3-in-1 Holder

  • What to look for: A versatile clip with an interchangeable loop that can hold not only a pacifier, but also a teething ring or a small toy. This single accessory can adapt to your baby's needs throughout the day, keeping all their essential items close and off the floor.

By choosing the right tool for the job, you can say goodbye to the constant game of "find the pacifier" and make your life just a little bit easier.

4 Stages of Brain-Boosting Play: Must-Have Essentials for Your Baby's Development

Every parent wants to give their child the best possible start in life. But what does that actually mean when it comes to toys and play? The most impactful "educational" toys are not about letters and numbers; they are about providing the right kind of stimulation at the right stage of brain development.

As experts in developmental play, we've broken down a child's first years into four key stages. Here is your playbook for choosing the perfect, brain-boosting essentials for each phase.

Stage 1: The Sensory Explorer (0-6 Months)

At this stage, a baby's brain is a sensory processing machine. They are learning about the world entirely through touch, sight, sound, and taste. Your goal is to provide safe, simple, and stimulating sensory input.

  • Developmental Focus: Building neural connections through sensory experiences, developing focus and tracking with their eyes, and exploring objects with their mouth and hands.

  • Must-Have Essentials:

    • High-Contrast Books & Mobiles: A newborn's vision is still developing, so they are most engaged by simple, high-contrast black-and-white patterns.

    • A High-Quality Play Gym: This is your baby's first "office." Look for one with arches that allow you to hang a variety of interesting toys for them to look at and eventually bat at.

    • The Perfect First Toy: A baby's first toy must be 100% safe for mouthing. We recommend the award-winning, Swiss-designed toys from MOLUK. Made from food-grade silicone, their unique, tactile shapes (like the Nigi, Nagi, & Nogi) are perfect for tiny hands to grasp and explore, providing a rich sensory experience.

Stage 2: The Cause-and-Effect Scientist (6-12 Months)

Your baby is now starting to understand that they can make things happen! They drop a spoon and you pick it up (a fun game!). They shake a rattle and it makes a sound. This is the dawn of intentional action and problem-solving.

  • Developmental Focus: Understanding cause and effect, developing fine motor skills (like the pincer grasp), and object permanence (knowing something exists even when they can't see it).

  • Must-Have Essentials:

    • Stacking Rings & Nesting Cups: These classic toys are perfect for learning about size, sequence, and how objects fit together.

    • Puzzles with Large Knobs: A simple wooden puzzle with 3-4 large, easy-to-grasp pieces helps develop problem-solving skills and hand-eye coordination. For a modern, art-led approach, the "My First Puzzle" series from Mudpuppy is an excellent choice.

    • A "Smarter" Pacifier Holder: The constant game of "drop the pacifier" can be solved with a clever tool like the Queebi Pacibuddy. It's a developmental toy in its own right, helping a baby learn to find and replace their own soother, a key self-soothing skill.

Stage 3: The Little Builder & Problem-Solver (1-2 Years)

Your toddler is now mobile and ready for more complex challenges. Their play becomes more purposeful. They aren't just knocking things down; they are trying to build things up. Their fine motor skills are exploding, and they are ready for their first real construction toys.

  • Developmental Focus: Developing spatial reasoning, honing fine motor skills, and engaging in early creative construction.

  • Must-Have Essentials:

    • First Building Blocks: This is the age for first-generation building toys. Look for sets with larger pieces that are easy for small hands to connect. The Plus-Plus BIG size is perfect for this stage, allowing toddlers to create vibrant 2D mosaics and simple 3D structures.

    • The First "Tablet": Not an iPad! A magnetic drawing board allows for endless, mess-free creativity, helping them practice the motions they will one day use for writing.

    • Tactile Numbers: Introduce early numeracy concepts with a hands-on tool. The award-winning tiles from Newmero are designed to help children feel and understand numbers, turning an abstract concept into a physical, playful experience.

Stage 4: The Imaginative Engineer (2-3+ Years)

Your child's imagination is now boundless. They are capable of complex pretend play and are ready for tools that allow them to bring their biggest ideas to life. This is the golden age of engineering play.

  • Developmental Focus: Complex problem-solving, collaborative play, storytelling, and translating abstract ideas into physical creations.

  • Must-Have Essentials:

    • Advanced Construction Toys: Introduce more complex building systems. The flexible, magnetic pieces from Clixo merge origami with construction, while the standard-sized Plus-Plus allows for incredibly detailed creations.

    • Real-World Engineering Tools: There is nothing more powerful than turning recycled materials into a life-sized creation. The award-winning toolsets from Makedo provide kid-safe saws and connectors that empower children to transform simple cardboard into forts, cars, and robots they can actually play in. It's the ultimate engineering experience.

    • Immersive Learning Kits: For the child fascinated by "how things work," the AR/VR science kits from Abacus Brands are a game-changer. They bring complex topics like chemistry or anatomy to life in an exciting, interactive way that feels like magic.

    • The multi-award winning Bilibo is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and versatile open-ended toys. Deceptively simple and magically attractive, Bilibo's iconic shell shape and bright colors immediately appeal to children. Bilibo arouses curiosity, engages the imagination and playfully trains basic motor skills and balance. Both boys and girls find unlimited ways to play with Bilibo – using it to rock and spin in, hide under, sit on, tote with and peek through. Bilibo provides hours of fun, indoors and outdoors - all year round.

The Solution to the Lost Pacifier: Why Queebi's Pacibuddy is a Must-Have

Every parent knows the scene: it's 3 AM, the baby is crying, and the pacifier has vanished into the dark depths of the crib. The constant search for a dropped or misplaced pacifier is one of the small but immense frustrations of early parenthood.

This is the exact problem that Wendy, a mother of two pacifier-loving babies and the founder of Queebi, set out to solve. She embarked on a creative adventure to develop the ultimate universal plush pacifier holder. The result is the Queebi Pacibuddy—a product designed not just to be cute, but to be a genuine problem-solver.

If you're a retailer wondering if this is the right product for your collection, the answer is simple: Queebi solves a universal problem, making it a perennial bestseller.

Why Queebi? The 5 Key Benefits

1. The Universal Solution (This is the Game-Changer)

The genius of the Queebi Pacibuddy is its patented silicone ring. It was intentionally designed to be compatible with the widest possible variety of name-brand pacifiers, including MAM™, Avent™, NUK™, Nuby™, and Soothie™. This removes the guesswork for parents and makes it an easy product for retailers to recommend, as it works with whatever pacifier a baby already prefers.

2. Easy to Find, Hard to Lose

The Pacibuddy's plush animal character makes the pacifier highly visible and easy for parents to find. More importantly, it gives the baby something soft and substantial to hold onto, helping them to find and replace their own pacifier, which is a crucial step toward self-soothing. No more lost pacifiers!

3. Supports Healthy Development

The Pacibuddy is more than a holder; it's a developmental toy.

  • Motor Skills: The plush body encourages the baby to practice their grasp and develop hand-eye coordination.

  • Sensory Development: The soft, cuddly texture provides tactile stimulation, engaging the baby's sense of touch.

4. Promotes Safety, Comfort, and Hygiene

Babies have a natural urge to suck, which is why pacifiers are so comforting. The Pacibuddy ensures a pacifier is always nearby to keep a baby calm, help them fall asleep faster, and provide comfort on the go. Better yet, it's easier to keep the Pacibuddy clean than a baby's hands or other random toys they might put in their mouth. All Pacibuddy characters are machine washable and made from BPA and Phthalate-free materials.

5. Reduces the Risk of SIDS

This is a critical benefit. The American Academy of Pediatrics has shown that babies who use pacifiers have a significantly lower risk of SIDS. The Pacibuddy helps by ensuring the pacifier is always safely within reach during naptime and bedtime.

How the Universal Ring Works

Queebi's innovative design is brilliantly simple:

  • For Pacifiers with a Button Knob (like MAM™ or NUK™): Simply stretch the silicone ring over the pacifier handle and onto the button knob for a secure fit.

  • For Pacifiers with a Tab Handle (like Soothie™): Locate the rectangular "Soothie-Slot" on the silicone ring and insert the pacifier's tab through the slot.

By solving a real parent problem with a safe, versatile, and high-quality design, Queebi has created a product that offers peace of mind to parents and delivers consistent sales for retailers. It's a true must-have.

Universal plush pacifier holder with that could be used with a wide variety of name brand infant pacifiers.

Our Queebi baby users from all over Asia, such as Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, China and Korea.

WubbaNub cons:

  1. Because the Wubbanub is attached to a Soothie pacifier, it is only recommended for 0-6 months (not for baby with teeth).

  2. Wubbanub is attached, there is no way to change out a damaged pacifier or if baby prefers a different style or brand of pacifier, or even teether.

Queebi Pacibuddy or WubbaNub?

Like every parenting issue, there is no one right or wrong answer. It will depend on what the individual child likes. But, here to mention, have you ever read your pacifier’s welcome instruction? Probably not, I’m guessing.

Actually in every pacifier’s welcome instruction, they told parents not to user longer than 2 months. If you use WubbaNub, it means you need to change WubbaNub every 2 months, since they plushies and pacifier is undetachable. You can rip the seams on your wub and replace the soothie but it won’t be easy.

These friends don't just live in stories; they adorn Queebi's products, becoming a familiar and comforting part of a baby's world. They remind us that, like them, our loved ones will learn, grow, and become the best versions of themselves.

Why We Chose Queebi

We believe in Queebi's mission to add comfort and joy to the beautiful chaos of parenting. Their commitment to high-quality, safe, and thoughtfully designed products aligns perfectly with our own values. 5 Must have sleeping essentials that makes baby fall asleep instantly

When your baby is born into the world, usually parents will want to buy all the sleeping essentials that look cute and adorable, including blankets, pillows, mattresses, or maybe even dolls to decorate the bed. In fact, the need for baby to sleep is actually much simpler than many parents think. There are some items that are often been purchased, but actually are not recommended for use when the baby is sleeping because it can increase the risk of the baby experiencing shortness of breath while sleeping or may experience sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

5 Must have sleeping essentials that makes baby fall asleep instantly

Here are some essential baby bedding that parents need to prepare.

1. Crib

Crib is certainly the most important baby sleeping essentials to have. Experts recommend that babies do not sleep in the same bed with their parents because they are at risk of being rolled over or suffocated by their parents' blankets, sheets, or clothes.

Even so, babies are advised to stay close to their parents. So, if at any time he needs to be breastfed or changed diapers, it will be easier for parents.

When choosing a baby crib and mattress, parents are advised to look for a flat mattress and not too soft but solid. This type of mattress is safer for babies.

Our recommendation: Soho 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

Made in Italy and GREENGUARD Gold Certified, the Soho 3-in-1 Convertible Crib updates a classic open Scandinavian design with mid-century modern lines to complement any room style.

Sturdy inclined legs tuck beneath a strong frame and all four walls allow easy air circulation.

With three mattress positions available, you can easily adjust the bed heights to match your baby’s growth from newborn to toddler (toddler bed and day bed conversion kit sold separately).

2. Crib sheets

Crib sheets for baby mattresses are also important to have and you are advised to provide at least four spares. You see, you can be sure you will often change the sheets due to bedwetting or other ‘accidents’ such as spilled milk.

Choose sheets that are the right size and can fit snugly on the mattress so they don't cause creases that are dangerous for the baby. Babies who sleep on mattresses with multiple sheets are at higher risk of SIDS because the sheets can block their airways.

Our recommendation: Loulou Lollipop Fitted Crib Sheet

Loulou Lollipop crib sheets are so comfy, you’ll wish they were yours. Their muslin sheets are soft, breathable, and easy to clean. Thoughtfully designed to fit all standard crib mattresses, they come in a matching muslin bag that’s ideal for on-the-go and gift-giving.

3. Blanket

Blankets are also important baby sleeping essentials that need to be prepared by parents. The blanket will make the baby comfortable while sleeping. But remember, to buy blankets according to the season, if they are born in summer time, you can consider soft swaddle to replace blanket.

How to put a blanket on the baby while sleeping also needs to be considered. The blanket needs to be fitted properly so that it wraps around the baby's chest and put the baby's hands outside the blanket to keep the blanket from shifting and falling off.

If you're worried about your baby getting cold through the night, consider a wearable blanket instead.

Our recommendation: Loulou Lollipo Lightweight Muslin Sleep Bag

Loulou Lollipop wearable blanket help baby experience a restful night of sleep with our comfy, soft sleep bags. Also known as sleep sacks, they are the perfect solution for fussy sleepers. Available in muslin and Tencel Lyocell knit jersey for temperature regulation.

4. Waterproof mattress protector

Waterproof layer that is usually installed over the baby's mattress in case the baby's diaper leaks while sleeping. That way, the baby's mattress will not get dirty and parents don't need to change the sheets every time when baby pees.

Our recommendation: Ultra Soft Waterproof Bamboo Crib Mattress Protector Pad by Margaux & May

Thoughtfully designed to eliminate the pesky crinkle sound of many mattress pads, our bamboo crib mattress pad is also extra deep—so it won’t be a wrestling match each time you put it on. Best of all, the quilted terry cloth serves the dual purposes of keeping the mattress clean and the baby comfortable.

5. Baby monitors

It is important to have a baby monitor installed if parents cannot accompany the baby continuously while they sleep. For example, parents need to cook, clean the house, take a shower or work while the baby is sleeping. So by installing a baby monitor near the bed, you can do your activities while you still can monitor the baby.

Our recommendation: Nanit Pro Camera

Choosing baby sleeping essentials is actually not difficult. You only need to buy essential items which are actually not hard to get and the prices are affordable. The most important thing is that you know the function and how to use each item properly.

How to successfully let baby using a spoon (with recipes!)

Does your baby love to self-feed with fingers, but isn’t keen on using a spoon?

While self-feeding using fingers is an important skill, so is learning to use a spoon. It’s a developmental milestone that kids achieve shortly after the 1st year & gain refined skill by age 2.

Kids may prefer using their fingers because they get feedback through the skin, muscles & joints that helps them feel safe. With a spoon, the feedback is primarily via the lips, tongue & mouth. That’s why it’s so important for babies to go through 2 stages of mouth play: generalized mouthing in infancy & discriminative mouthing at about 4 to 5 months of age. That means baby is gaining the motor skills to intentionally move teethers & toys in her mouth as she explores the shape & texture. Most importantly, she gets to experience exactly how her body responds to that stimuli before food is introduced!

By 9 months of age, when kids aren’t comfortable with a spoon in their mouths, they may have missed out on this type of exploration.  Offer opportunities throughout the day (always when your child is safely seated) to mouth safe, flexible mouth toys. The grabease 2-in-1 self-feeding silicone spoon is a bit smaller than the grabease utensils, flexible & has a texture handle.  It’s a great first spoon for dipping & building confidence in a child who is hesitant.

Got a toddler who isn’t keen on self-feeding with utensils? Offer the slightly larger grabease utensils during pretend play & let her lick & bite without the sensory component of food in her mouth. Keep offering the spoon at snack/mealtimes, too.  Give it a month & if your child is still hesitating, contact an occupational therapist or a speech language pathologist who specializes in feeding to offer specific strategies for your older child."

Mashed Sweet Potato

Sweet potato is a good start to introduce vegetables to your baby. Peel and roughly chop the sweet potato before boiling. Wait until tender, then transfer to a bowl to mash. Seasonings like salt, pepper, and garlic powder can be added for taste. Mashed food is a great way to teach your baby how to use a spoon. It doesn’t require much chewing either, since they have yet to develop teeth.

Ensure that the spoon your child is using is fit for their needs. Baby spoons allow for better grip and are made soft since their teeth are still growing. Choosing a brightly colored spoon can also entice your baby to eat on their own.

Grabease Silicone Spoons are patented, pediatrician tested and come in fun colors.

Scrambled Eggs

Eggs are a good source of protein and are customizable to your baby’s preference. You can cook the scrambled eggs with cheese to add flavor and a bit of texture. If you’re teaching your baby to use their hands to eat, cook the eggs using a folding technique instead of whisking. If needed, slice the eggs into bite-size pieces before serving. This way, the shape of the eggs will be easier for them to pick up.

Since your baby is learning to self-feed, it is best to place their food in a baby-proof dish. Opting for baby bowls that have a suction prevents them from spilling their food. Additionally, choosing break-proof dinnerware is a safe option for their learning hands.

Grabease Silicone Suction Bowl is also patented and pediatrician tested. It is made of food grade silicone that is resistant to bacteria, odor, and stains. The strong suction adheres to most surfaces to make learning to self-feed easier for both parent and baby. It's also dishwasher safe!

5 Recommended toys to maximize children's motor skills development

Children's motor skills need to be continuously trained in order to develop optimally. Here are 5 recommended toys to maximize motor development.

Since I became aware of the Sensory Processing Disorder problem experienced by my niece, Cessy, motor development has become my focus in overcoming the disorder. However, for children who do not have the disorder at all, it also needs to be stimulated.

Motor development itself is the process of growth and development of a child's movement abilities. Should develop in line with the maturity of nerves and muscles. In other words, every movement, no matter how simple, is the result of a complex interaction pattern of various parts and systems in the body controlled by the brain.

Read more: 10 Milestones in first year of baby’s life

Motor development of children is divided into two:

Gross motor skills

This include a wide range of movements performed by the child using the hands, feet, or the whole body. For example, crawling, running, and jumping.

Fine motor skills

This include small movements that children make using smaller body parts, such as picking up coins from the floor, or holding super small objects such as buttons.

Maximizing its development, can be done by playing. If you really want to use a toy media, you have to be observant in choosing it too.

Recommended toys to maximize development

1. Ball

Ball is good for training the coordination of the nerves of the limbs, including for hand and foot movements. Lightweight plastic balls are more appropriate for babies. If they have entered the age of toddlers, they can be invited to play basketball or soccer, while we explain the instructions. For example, if a basketball must be put in the basket. While the soccer ball is kicked into the goal.

For ages: 12 months – 4 years

Featuring: Mox by Moluk

2. Puzzles

Puzzles are good for training children's fine motor skills as well as training cognitive intelligence, as well as eye and hand nerve coordination. This game is even part of the sensory integration therapy specifically for children who have developmental disorders. For 2-3 year olds, choose a puzzle with large and few pieces.

For ages: 2 – 4 years

3. Play-dough

Pinching, squeezing, rolling, grasping, to pressing play-dough turns out to be very useful for children's fine motor skills. When playing with play-dough, a child's fingers will be flexible and trained, so that when they starts using a writing instrument, they able to use it properly and correctly. There are many brands of play-dough out there, or you can make your own plasticine.

For age: 2-4 years old

4. Tricycle

I really remember the advice of child psychologist, that one way to train the gross motor nerves of the limbs is to take her on a bicycle. Bicycles help them to practice balance. Bicycles can also help children's partial intelligence. Just imagine, for children with growth and development disorders, bicycles are very helpful in stimulating, especially if they are given to children without growth and development disorders. To be more stimulated, create a cycling path that is given an obstacle, for example a small chair, until your child forces himself to maneuver.

For ages: 18 months – 4 years

5. Toy Stacking

This toy definitely helps a child's fine motor skills, the toys can be arranged from large to small. By doing so, they learns to arrange and remove the items he is holding. They will also explore the object they are holding. In addition, toy stacking can help children train their visual-spatial perception.

For ages: 12 months – 2 years.

Above that age, children will need more challenging toys.

Indonesia Baby Product Exhibition - Mommy 'n Me 2022 by IMBEX

There are 2 kinds of baby exhibitions from IMBEX series, Mommy ‘n Me which usually will be exhibit in June-July every year, while the IMBEX itself usually will be held in the end of the year. I have not attended Mommy ‘n Me exhibition for 2 years, luckily this year I finally able to visit. Let’s join me virtually!

As always, IMBEX series always held their baby products exhibitions in JCC (Jakarta Convention Center), this year, they are using 2 halls, Assembly & Plenary Hall. The booths in Assembly Hall is bigger and I could say many of those are the old players, while Plenary Hall is occupied with many startup. I love being in Plenary Hall, meeting new brands.

Read more: 5 Booth that you must visit in IMBEX 2021

That day is super hot! I arrived pretty early, around 9:30 AM, there is no crowded lines, I can go inside the exhibition hall and enjoying the air conditioner within 5 minutes. The early birds always get the worms.

This is the first booth that catch my eye in the main lobby hall, Babybee Corp. I’ve know this brand from a local influencer and I follow them ever since. They’re known as hypoallergenic expert sleeping essentials. Indonesia is a hot hot hot country - need to say 3 times to emphasize - thus we are very picky while choosing sleeping essentials (pillow, blanket, bolster), especially for babies.

It was pretty crowded already in the main lobby, going straight then you will meet Assembly Hall and Plenary Hall.

Dooglee is launching their new product called Cosy Mat during the exhibition, and of course there will be a special discount during exhibitions. You can see from the crowd. Dooglee’s sleeping essentials are all using 100% natural latex, I use their pillow as well for myself, and I’ve been using it for almost 2 years, I am lovin’ it.

I bet you are already familiar with Baabaasheepz a Singaporean brand, this time they are having a special trade-in event as booth activity. Give you chance to upgrade your old buddy to a new upgraded version buddy by this VIP Trade-In. Awh, I wish I have one.

Walking down the main lobby, you will meet a couple of Ondel-Ondel - the big doll that is moved by someone inside is the original Betawi culture. On the Ondel-Ondel left hand is Planery Hall, the right is where you go to Assembly Hall. Let me take you to Assembly Hall first.

The very best booth location according to my opinion goes to - MOOIMOM. They will say hello to you once you arrived in Assembly Hall. Showing their 2 hot sale products in their biggest flyer, the auto folded stroller and wireless pumping machine.

Babymoov booth right next to MOOIMOM, together with NAIF a natural skincare brand made in Netherlands. Their booth is so Instagramable and they are having a photo contest this time, sadly I don’t take a good picture of it cause it was sooo crowded! But I took a screenshot from their Instagram account.

Found our carried brand, Matchstick Monkey in Paninti Hub booth. We wrote a bunch of articles about Matchstick Monkey, check them out here.

Boromon by Monde, if you are not living in Indonesia, you might do not know that Monde is a very big local cookie brand. From 1984 until now PT Monde Mahkota Biscuit has been a consistent top player on the market especially for wafers product. PT Monde Mahkota Biscuit focused products are Nissin Wafers, Monde Serena Egg Roll Cookies, Nissin Coconut Biscuit, and Monde Boromon Cookies.

Cute booth by Ocipici - their main product is sleepwear, dailywear, homewear. Not only for kids, but also adults. The price also consider friendly.

Mooi is an Indonesian brand, handmade in Indonesia. They are opening 2 booths during Mommy ‘n me, later that day, both booths are full of human, very crowded, they are having 15% off discount and cashback for those Jastipers (meaning: delivery service).

Who doesn’t love books? Instead of buying more and more toys, I found Indonesian parent loves to buy lots of book! I saw there are many customers carrying boxes of books, I am bluffing. And there is something really draw my attention, the owner still using book to write down the incomes. Check their Instagram @alfabetbooks.

I am hoping Little Palmer House could have Gudettama clothing for adult :( Their prices are consider attractive enough even without discount, but during exhibition, you will get an extra discount. No wonder why the booth is so full, the line are very long.

Afternoon situation, more people coming to the exhibition.

Now, I am taking y’all to the Plenary booth.

Babiesfirst is a bamboo fiber feeding set, I heard from many Jastip friends that they receive many customers ordering Babiesfirst bamboo feeding set. The design is indeed cute.

You can find our other carried brand, Moomu in Mybebe Indonesia’s booth. They had crazy attack special for each day. You can get a different discount for different items each day. The booth is very easy to find, in front of the stage.

The stage situation when there is no activity around that time, chairs are being occupied by those who need to take a quick rest.

Alami means natural in Indonesian, Alamii has a very nice booth design. It is a snack for kids, oven baked, no MSG, of course no artificials, and they only use premium alami ingredients.

Another booth that successfully has drawn my attention, it is the PMB Toys Indonesia. They are a vehicle toy maker.

And this is the reason why I remember them so much, this Vespa is only IDR 500,000 around USD 33. It has battery, it has speaker, it even has two extra wheel to keep it balanced. Wow!

Every thing will come to an end, I am grateful there are more and more events back to Indonesia. See you in next event! Tell me which brand you like the most.

5 Tips for choosing a comfortable school bag for the kids

Choosing the right school bag for the kids is very important. Not only the model, material, and color, the size of the school bag also needs to be considered and adjusted to the little one's body posture. That way, your little one can stay comfortable and avoid muscle pain. Kids usually bring quite a lot of things when they go to school, books, school supplies, and lunch. Backpacks are still the best choice for kids’ school bags, because they are designed so that the load that carried can be supported by the body's strongest muscles.

However, if the kids carry too much weight in a backpack, it might cause back, neck and shoulder pain, as well as posture problems. In order to avoid these various conditions, we should choose our kids backpack wisely.

5 Tips for choosing a comfortable school bag for the kids

Parents certainly don't want their kids to feel back pain or their posture is disturbed due to choosing the wrong school bag. Well, there are tips for choosing a children's school bag that you can try

1. Choose a backpack with the right size

Even though a backpack is the best choice for a child's school bag amongst all kind of bag out there, make sure to choose the right size according to your little one's body posture. A backpack that doesn't fit properly can cause back pain and shoulder pain.

Editor tips: The size of the backpack that is suitable for children is 5 cm hanging above the waist. This is because the lower the school bag from the waist, the heavier the burden that must be carried by the shoulders.

Read more: Recommended toys to bring to school

2. Choose a wheeled bag when carrying a heavy load

If you have to carry a heavy load, choose a school bag with wheels to make it easier for your little one to move. However, make sure your little one doesn't have to go through the stairs to get to their class, because it can endanger their safety when lifting a wheeled bag.

3. Use school bags properly

Make sure you adjust and tighten the two shoulder straps, so that they fit your little one's body. Avoid using a bag with only one shoulder strap as it can cause lower back pain and muscle spasms.

Editor tips: If your child's backpack is equipped with a belt around the waist, make sure you tighten it properly. However, don't be too tight so your little one still feels comfortable.

4. Pay attention to the weight of the school bag

In order to avoid children from back pain, don't let your little one carry a bag that weighs more than 15-20 percent of his body weight. In addition to back pain, a backpack with a heavy load can cause a child's body to bend forward or scoliosis.

Editor’s pick: HUGGER toodler backpack

5. Choose a bag with the right straps and compartments

Choose a backpack with wide shoulder straps and soft padding. This will provide comfort to the child when carrying a school bag. In addition, choose a backpack with several compartments so that the weight of the items can be more evenly distributed. Heavier items should be placed closer to the back, while lighter items should be farther away from the body.

Not only we need to pay attention while choosing the type of school bag, the things inside of the bag also need to be considered. Prioritize the contents of the bag only for school purposes so that the burden of the school bag carried by the kids is not too heavy.

If the school provides lockers, remind your child to keep a bag or put heavy books there. And if the kids experience numbness, tingling, or discomfort in the arms and legs it might be a result of using the wrong school bag, take him to the doctor for an examination and get the right treatment.

This certification cannot be purchased through payment to maintain and ensure the credibility of the certification.

This time, Toy Brain applied for the "Program" category with the platform content. After multiple layers of auditing standards, it was finally affirmed by the reviewers and certified by STEM.org. It is worth mentioning that, in order to ensure unchangeable, absolute fairness, the STEM.org certification data will even be synchronized to the blockchain, which means that for those who have officially obtained STEM.org certification, the qualification will exist forever within the time limit. become an established fact.

Let’s take a look at the STEM.org certification differences. There are three certifications in total: green, orange, and red, which are certified for different target groups.

Why applying STEM.org certification?

After Toy Brain team has gotten in touch with many parents and kindergartens educators, we found that many of them has already know about educational toys or teaching toys from their daily life or work. But they didn’t have a deep understanding of STEM, they didn’t understand how to use them as teaching tools, and there is no way to know the safety of goods, or whether it has the value of STEM education.

Some even blindly listened to the sales, who did not guide the understanding of the STEM core values. They believed that buying a material package to assemble, buying a robot, and playing programming represented the complete STEM. For this reason, we established and launched a the system to pre-school, to reduce the problems that teachers and parents are facing, and of course we want to establish the correct way to promote STEM.

Why should you only trust a platform with certification?

1. Toy Brain has improved the review standards of all products on the shelves, we will help you check the toys with STEM value and even certification at the beginning, so that you can easily choose good toys that allow children to learn things on our platform.

2. We have passed the STEM.org international organization certification, to ensure that we are reliable and accurate while we speaking of the STEM value.

3. Toy Brain also expects ourselves to have the ability and responsibility to influence the big environment, from developing a small theme to influence our next generation, so that they are able to play openly, play correctly, learn while playing, and cultivate their abilities to solve problems in life.

At this stage, there are many people who want to take the trend of STEM. The original intention of creating the platform of Toy Brain was to give everyone a thorough and correct understanding about STEM. STEM education might give you an ‘unsure’ feeling, it seems that no one can see and explain what is STEM clearly, but in fact it is only because the lack of understanding. In order to solve this problem, we invited scholars with professional experience, or members of the Taiwan Toy Education Association, as well as many first-line kindergarten teachers with practical experience, who want to promote STEM education but feel that there is no suitable place to promote. We are here, ready to work with you together to complete this difficult task and build this STEM education ecosystem together.

After all, the road to promote STEM education is not easy, and it is even more difficult under the Asian style education system. Now our efforts are starting to be seen, and the most important thing is to rely on the support of parents and educators. STEM in Asia! Let us create together possibilities for new education method and new parent-child bonding time activities!

Matchstick Monkey 2022 New Product Introduction: Bathtime Series

Children usually like to play with water, but it's really hard to get them take a bath. Turns out, there are many reasons behind it. One of them is because children get a lot of sensory stimulation when bathing that makes them uncomfortable, such as the sensation of being exposed to water and exposed to cold air when taking off their clothes. To get around this, parents can distract them with children's toys designed to accompany bathing activities. By playing while bathing, children will feel more enjoy because they are surrounded by interesting toys.

Create unlimited imagination

Water is an invisible form that can change with the external environment. Children can practice using different objects to shape the water. Putting water in different containers, putting it in the sand, and pouring it on the ground can all stimulate children in different ways. Of course, the biggest stimulus is to splash on yourself or other children!

Learn communication skills

To play with water and sand, it is usually a group of people who play together. Children can also work together to complete the same work, such as sand castles, and children who are not familiar with it can also mingle and make new friends.

How to choose water toys?

When choosing water toys, you must pay attention to several details.

Safety

Children's movements tend to be more exaggerated when playing in the water. Do not purchase a toy that have sharp edges. Safety is the most important thing.

Material

BPA free is a must. It would even better if there was an ST (Safe Toy) stamp on it.

Can be played in many ways

If a toy can have a variety of ways to play, it must be a good toy. Moreover, good toys can stimulate children's imagination and can make children smarter by combining or developing new ways to play.

Cute appearance

The appearance of a toy has always been the first factor for children to choose a toy. They tend to choose a toy with a familiar character on it, like Thomas the Train, Disney characters, Cocomelon, and many more. The best way to choose is to take your children to choose one. Let them have the opportunity to choose, it will give them a higher sense of achievement.

MOLUK's most famous product, Bilibo, is like a tortoise shell, which can be used to dig sand, fill water, sit ot it, wear it on your head to play bullfighting, stand on it and practice yoga, whatever you can think about.

Speaking of summer, how can there is no water guns? But ordinary water guns have a short shooting distance, sometimes they even leak, which is really disappointing. This BABCOO has 4.5 stars on Amazon, it doesn't leak, it can hold three cans of water (about 1010 cc), and everyone is very excited about being able to shoot very far. BABCOO has a very cool shape, the whole design is very futuristic.

At-home activity: 5 Tips to successfully bake with kids and props you must have

Baking is an exciting activity that everyone in the family can enjoy. Not only is it quality time spent together, baking ignites creativity, teaches how to follow instructions, involves math & counting, and it brings smiles.

5 Tips to successfully bake with kid

Tips #1: Embrace the mess

If you feel most calm in a tidy kitchen, set your expectations before starting. Baking with kids can be messy, but that’s the fun of it.

Tips #2: Use big bowls

From experience– use very large mixing bowls so there’s plenty of room for stirring, pouring, splashing, etc.

Tips #3: Pre-measure if needed

If you’re baking with more than 1 child, it’s likely helpful to have some ingredients pre-measured so all they have to do is pour into the mixing bowl. If you’re baking with 1 child who is beginning to understand math, it might be fun to have that child help measure so there’s learning involved. For example, “We have 2 cups flour and 1 cup cocoa powder needed, how many cups total do you think that is?”

Tips #4: Do not be in rush, allow enough time

Baking takes time and baking with kids takes longer. The recipes listed below include the average time, but including children in the process may slightly extend those times. Consider it a fun journey rather than a means to an end.

Tips #5: Assign jobs to make it fun

For example, if you have an 8 year old and 4 year old in the kitchen with you, give each a specific job such as the older child measures and the younger child stirs. If you’re baking with a child who is beginning to learn counting, have that child count all of the ingredients. To create excitement, you could call the child “chef” such as “please hand me the whisk, chef Sally” and label your kitchen tools with fun names such as “Sally’s Super Special Spatula” or “Dominic’s Mighty Mixing Bowl.” (This works wonders with super young bakers!) You could even pretend you’re doing a cooking show and make up a fun name for your show.

The following baking props are my suggestions if you’re baking with eager little kitchen helpers. As always, young bakers should have adult supervision in the kitchen.

Baking props you must have for a successful baking with kids

Props #1: Cute and fun baking mold

Choose a baking mold that looks fun! Dena toys is a toy brand that made from a platinum silicone, making it a very best choice. Not only baking mold but also bath toy, stacking toy and even teether.

Check more about Dena toys here.

Props #2: Kids safe knife

My first recommendation for kids safe knife is Kiddikutter, an Australian brand, it cuts food, not finger - as their slogan said. Not only BPA-free, Kiddikutter completely food safe and hygienic. It can also cut through meat when used with a sawing action, they are ideal to use as cutlery.

Check Kiddikutter here.

Props #3: Utensils that designed for kids

If you follow us long enough, you will guess my recommendation easily. It is Loulou Lollipop tableware series and Grabease. They both designed for our little kids with a shorter handles, the difference between these 2 brands is the material and little design.

While Grabease utensils are made from PP, Loulou Lollipop utensils and made from silicone and stainless steel. You can choose according to your preference. However, I recommend Grabease for younger kids because of its choke protection. While for bigger kids, Loulou Lollipop will be my first choice.
