Congratulations to MOLUK Oibo and Nigi, Nagi & Nogi win Spiel Gut Award

Congratulations to MOLUK Oibo and Nigi, Nagi & Nogi win Spiel Gut Award!!

A game is one of the tools that can be used as a way to transform knowledge to children. therefore, when a child is playing, this means that it is not only playing game that can entertain or carry out meaningful joyful activities, but more than that, a game that is played by anyone will have an educational meaning, even if the person who is doing it is not aware of it.

We are excited to announce that one of our carried brand, MOLUK has won Spiel Gut. Oibo, as well as the Nigi, Nagi & Nogi teething rings, have been awarded the 'spiel gut' seal of approval. The non-profit organization was founded over 60 years ago to promote toys with exceptional play value. To date, 13 different MOLUK toys have received the coveted distinction.

What does Spiel Gut mean?

Spiel Gut means good toys. Since 1954, educationalists, psychologists, doctors, technicians, experts in design, chemistry, electronics ... and parents - scientific and practical people - have been examining and assessing toys - from babies' rattles to material for experimenting.

They work on an honorary basis and are independent of the toy industry and retailers. Their spiel gut recommendation signifies that this toy has been tested with children and examined by experts with a positive result.

Their criteria: play value, material, workmanship, construction, durability, safety, design, size, quantity, quality of the instructions for playing or making, suitability for the appropriate age group.

Play + toys as educational aids?

Playing always entails learning, not by means of teaching, but on the basis of personal experience - the most effective form of learning in childhood.

Physical and mental agility, social behaviour, imagination, logical thinking, planned action, powers of concentration, stamina, joy at being active and a great deal more besides, can be developed by playing, and the benefits can be seen for the rest of the child's life - at work and during leisure activities, as well as in a wide variety of other situations.

Learning to play?

But playing too has to be learned. The readiness to play, which every healthy child has by its very nature, can only develop into the ability to play with careful assistance, stimulation and encouragement. Good toys can also help in this, but only if the abilities and interests of the child are taken into consideration when choosing a toy.

What makes Oibo so special?

Oibo is an elastic, stackable, rollable, squeezable, easy-to-grip sensory toy for babies and kids of all ages. Oibo’s geometry merges a sphere with a cube - combining the action and fun of a ball with the educational benefits of building blocks.

Like all MOLUK toys, Oibo grows with the child. It shines as an elegant grasping and teething toy for the baby. Toddlers will enjoy how Oibo bounces and rolls. Its soft material is perfect for first throwing and catching games. By stacking and aligning the pieces, kids learn about geometry while training hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Wooden teether, natural fabrics, or silicone teether?

Raised your hand if you have tried to bite your baby teether? Have you ever try wooden teether? How was it? I have tried both silicone and wooden, I prefer chewing my bubble gum, but the feeling of biting teether was not that bad and weird.

Frankly saying, I like silicone teether better than wooden, but this is my personal opinion apart from what best for my baby. Silicone teether is way cuter than wooden one, colorful and attractive. We all knew choosing a teether for your little one’s aching gums could be so complicated.

A teether is an object which when chewed by the babies give relieve to their sore gums. The teethers are available having the different bases such as wooden, BPA-free plastic, natural rubber, and silicone.

Below content is quoted from QParent blog post.

You’ll definitely want to avoid any silicone teether that contain BPA, PVC, or phthalates.

  • BPA or bisphenol-A is a plastics chemical that mimics estrogen and disrupts the body’s hormonal systems. It’s particularly harmful for pregnant women, babies, and young kids. Though most regulatory bodies, including the FDA, will tell you BPA is safe in the small quantities that appear in plastic products, many companies have chosen to produce and market BPA-free plastics. Excellent! Except for one small detail: Many companies simply replace BPA with BPS — bisphenol-S — which is just as toxic, if not more toxic, than BPA. Bottom line? Just because a product is touted as BPA-free doesn’t mean it’s safe.

  • PVC or polyvinyl chloride is the third most common plastic in the world — and also the most toxic. It’s bad stuff, and you definitely don’t want it in something your kids will put in their mouths.

  • Phthalates are chemicals added to plastics to make them soft and supple. (PVC is actually hard and brittle so to make something like a squeezy toy requires the addition of phthalates.) Phthalates don’t bond to plastic, though, so they leach out over time. Babies who suck on teethers containing phthalates will be ingesting a known carcinogen. Baby Center has an excellent list of phthalate names so you can check labels.

Wooden teether and natural fabrics are in!

If you’re super-concerned about plastics or your baby’s reactions to rubber, then wood and fabric teething toys are the ones for you. There are plenty of good ones to choose from. The teether made by using wood are safer because of having natural, chemical and plastic free features.

So, here are what I can recommend to you - trust me, I’ve try to chew them, but nothing happened, they just so durable.

Products were put through their paces over a period of six months in three different settings: at home in real-life situations, in a retail environment and online. The products submitted were assessed on quality, value for money, user-friendliness and innovation.

At a glance:

These innovative monkey teethers are ergonomically designed to reach right to the source of the teething pain with bumps on the back of the head. Teething trouble is a thing of the past with this range and these are the perfect companion for your little one to provide comfort.

Would you recommend this to other mums?

April: I would recommend the matchstick monkey - it is fun and colourful, easy to pop in the changing bag yet sturdy enough that my son can have a good chew and I don't have to worry that bits will break off. I love the little nobbly bits on the back of the head as I can pop teething gel on it and my son can chew away. It is easy to wash with warm soapy water and the colour hasn't faded at all.

How did this product make your life easier?

Philipa: This is a great toy for teething babies. Although I was initially put off by the monkey design, it has really grown on me. My baby loves it! It has a teething gel applicator which is a great addition and it can be put in the freezer to provide extra relief for a teething baby. It is easily cleaned in the dishwasher or steriliser.

Would you choose this product to win?

Jennifer: Yes definitely, if this happens to get lost I would buy another in an instant. It should win for its versatility, ease of use and clever design. It is lightweight, small, easy for baby to use and easy for parents to apply the gel to back teeth. It would also make a great gift for something a little different.

What changes would you make to this product?

Margaret: I would not change anything about this product. It is such a great teething toy. It really does give my little girl some much-needed relief. We have had some bad teething weeks and this monkey really helps. There are so many different aspects of the monkey that she can chew. The legs of the monkey are great for reaching the back teeth too. Wouldn't change a thing.

The original Matchstick Monkey Teething Toy, now sold worldwide in over 43 different countries, including Taiwan, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Japan, USA, UK, and so on. Solution for a crying baby - The best pacifier clips and holders in 2019

Listening to a crying baby was a frustrating thing for parents. But it is even more frustrating if you couldn’t find their pacifier which can definitely stop their crying and comfort them, thus parent sure will consider to buying a pacifier clips or holders for their little crying one.

Pacifier clips and holder, what should I choose?

If you have budget, my suggestion is both of them! Everybody drops things, babies drop things, parents drop things, it happens almost on a daily basis. Babies drop things during their sleep, they also drop things while they’re awake. A pacifier clip is a safe alternative, but only if they’re using it under your supervision and tether or ribbon is less than seven inches long. Don’t use pacifier clips any longer than that, it could wrap around a baby's neck, strangle them and the worse it may can cause chocking hazard. While they’re sleeping, use pacifier holder instead of pacifier clips, the one with plushies is better.

Self-feeding utensils, Grabease or Bumkins silicone chewtensils?

Entering the age of 6 months, is the right time for your little one to be introduced to some solid foods. That's when baby spoon and fork are began to be used. Unlike the usual utensils that we use, the baby's spoon and fork must be adjusted to the little one's mouth, safe and comfortable when used.

Baby spoon and fork has its own uniqueness according to the development of your child and is made of various materials that will provide a different eating experience. In this article, we will compare Grabease baby first self-feeding utensils and Bumkins silicone chewtensils.

Both Grabease and Bumkins are perfect to help guide little ones to self-feeding. But, yes, they have some differences that might let parents feel confuse. Let us tell you pros and cons between each product.

Bumkins silicone chewtensils pros:

  • Bumkins Chewtensils help you to introduce babies to self-feeding by giving them utensils that can be chewed on before transitioning to silverware.

  • Bumkins chewtensils made from BPA-free, BPS-free, PVC-free, phthalate-free, cadmium-free and lead-free silicone.

Bumkins silicone chewtensils cons:

  • The silicon fork doesn’t work. Not even on the softest foods. Made from silicone bring both pros and cons to it. Since baby can chew it, feel free to imagine how soft is Bumkins silicone chewtensils are.

  • The sizes are a little bit too small, smaller than usual baby spoon and fork, it makes baby harder to use.

  • Friend of mine have an issue with Bumkins fork, since it is called chewtensils, means baby can chew it, but my friend’s daughter bit it off and almost swallow the bitten part.

The best baby spoon fork in 2019

Babies need extra attention and equipment to support their growth, especially when they start to have a solid meal in their lives. Bowls, plates, spoon, and forks are a few necessary accessories to make meals easier. You get a lot of use out of these tools because your baby has to eat three meals a day plus a few snacks. Many baby spoon forks are available on the market to help your child eat alone. Confused which one to choose?

What baby feeding tools do babies need?

How to pick baby spoon fork and fork?

  • Who Will Feed Baby?

When babies begin to learn to eat by their own, generally they cannot hold the spoon and fork in the right place, that’s why baby’s dish messy and their mouth becomes dirty. Feeding spoon that serves to help you feed your little one is different from the baby spoon which designed for self-feeding. When your child starts learning to eat independently, you can choose baby spoon instead of feeding spoon.

Self-feeding spoon and fork usually have ergonomic design. Ergonomic spoons are chunkier and are shaped easier for babies to learn how to handle. It helps develop their fine motor skills.

  • Material Used to Make It

The most important feature to consider is what the spoon or fork is made of. Babies aren’t coordinated enough to use metal forks and spoons. They could hurt themselves by biting down on the metal with their gums. Softer materials are a good idea. Plastic, rubber, and even wood is good for babies.

  • Size

Baby utensils should be smaller than yours. It might look small to you, but it’s probably the right size for your little one. It should be able to fit into your baby’s mouth.

Baby utensils are usable for years to come, and the right ones can be passed down through multiple children. It’s a good idea to invest in nice ones for home and some cheaper ones for the diaper bag. It’s easy to lose them at restaurant or at a relative’s house. Having a few sets is wise.

It's meal time! The best baby bowls and plates in 2019

There are many development stages in each baby's age. For example, when your baby 6 months old, it is time to start eating extra meal as a companion for breast milk. Parents must be careful in choosing companion meal. The baby's digestive tract is still not as perfect as an adult, so the food must be considered properly.

After introducing solid food to baby, the next step should be learning to eat by themselves. What is the benefit of self-feeding for baby? Beside practicing their motor skills, self-feeding also makes them independent from an early age. You would like to have the proper bowls and plates for success, here’s a list of our favorite baby feeding essentials to help reduce the mess and stress.

How to choose a perfect teether for my baby?

Baby has a tendency to put anything in their mouth, usually this phase will begin when baby are 4-5 months old - usually called oral phase. In order for children not to enter things carelessly, you can give the teether a bite. Giving a teether not only stimulates the baby's teeth growth, but also overcomes the itching that disturbs the area of the gum.

How to choose a teether that is perfect for my baby?

Good quality teething toys will be durable, BPA-free, easy for your baby to hold on their own, and safe to chew on. Teether also shouldn’t have any hard edges. Some teether are designed for pain relief and play!

Teether is a toy that commonly used to stimulate the growth of baby teeth at the age of 5-6 months and above. Biting teether gives comfort feeling to the baby. Teether generally made from silicon and shaped slim so it is easily bitten by a baby. Before buying a teether, you should consider the following tips:

  1. Make sure the materials are soft and toxic free.

Choose a teether made from BPA free, PVC free dan phthalates free material. Choose a soft teether that is quite chewy. BPA or bisphenol-A is a plastic chemical that is harmful to the body's hormonal system. This is very dangerous for pregnant women, babies and children. Make sure the teether you choose includes the words BPA free in the packaging. Teether is usually made of plastic that is safe for the baby's mouth and has an attractive shape so the baby wants to hold it.

Choose teether that suitable for your baby’s age.

  • Stage 1 teether for infants aged about 4 months, teether function to stimulate dental growth.

  • Stage 2 teether for babies around 6 months old, the shape of the teether is denser, its function is to stimulate the next tooth growth.

  • Stage 3 teether usually used for babies who already have 2 teeth or more, the teether is denser, but soft when bitten, the texture is more rough, there is even a wavy, teether function at this stage to stimulate further tooth growth.

  • Stage 4 teether is a teether with a texture that is more coarse and varied. This teether is used by babies whose biting ability is getting stronger, because they already have several teeth. In addition to stimulating tooth growth, teether can also trains their motor movements to chew.

Teether also has stages that are suitable to the baby's condition. For babies who have not yet grown teeth, choose smaller and softer teether, don’t choose a teether with rough texture. While teether for 6 month old babies usually has a rougher texture to stimulate tooth growth, such as wood.

Choose a strong teether and easy to wash teether.

When buying a teether, try to hold the teether and then stretch it. Teether should made from strong material, so it doesn’t easy to destroy by baby’s teeth or their magical hand. If the teether was easy to torn, of course it would be easily swallowed by baby, which is very dangerous. Also, make it a habit to wash teether after being used by baby. Wash with hot waters, and sterilize as you clean and sterilize milk bottles and baby pacifiers. Use teether that have Biocote® Antimicrobial technology, it could makes your teether more hygienically clean and reduces the potential of cross-contamination.

Choose the teether that is easy to hold.

Teether have a very large variations and this can attracts baby. But, make sure teether shape is easy to hold. Teether size must match the size of baby's mouth, not too big or too small. If it is too small, it is certainly at risk of being swallowed and will make the baby bite his own hand, while it it was too large ti will hurt baby’s mouth. Pay attention while your baby use it.

What do parents say about Grabease toothbrush?

Another great product from Grabease ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

Love it!! It’s easy for my baby to hold and the smart design prevents her from putting it too far into her mouth. It seems to act as a teether in addition to being a toothbrush- she chews on it with all parts of her teeth and gums. Grabease has great products!

Perfect for my 2 years old and work really well ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

Bought this for my 2 year old. She absolutely loves it. With it being double sided it's much easier to use than a regular toothbrush. I also think it's easier for her to grip, since it's wider than most toothbrushes, and it is work really well.

Finally! Something that works! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

If my child could tell you what he hated most in his 15 months on this earth he would immediately say “When mom and dad brush my teeth”. Needless to say we were desperate to find a solution so we wouldn’t have a child who lived at the dentist due to cavities. Ta-da! He now not only let us brush his teeth but he wants to do it himself too!! We have to distract him to take it away! Thank you for creating this product to make this process easier!

Love it, but quite pricey ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)

I tried so many tooth brushes so far my baby likes this the most. He is able to hold it nicely attempt to brush his teeth. I also own the Grabease spoon and fork and like them a lot. The only down side is the price. There should be no reason why these are so expensive.

Nice concept ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5)

I love the idea of this product & also love the other grabease products. Unfortunately I’m disappointed with how quickly the bristles have broken down. That being said, my toddler still chews more than brushes. Given this fact I think it’s more cost effective to buy packs of less expensive brushes.

3 Rules you must follow when giving first food to your children

There are so many ways to introduce and giving the first food to your children. Proper nutrition should be given to improve the nutrition of your child. Said gastro hepatology consultant pediatrician, Dr. Frieda Handayani any method applied must prioritize nutritional needs to support each stage of different growth and development. Errors in feeding can have fatal consequences on children's nutritional conditions, such as eating difficulties and malnutrition.

"The first time feeding a child, there must be many challenges so we must be patient. But it is a child's learning process that must be passed," Dr. Frieda said it.

Grabease113.jpg

Well, here are 3 rules that you must understand when giving your child the first meal.

1. Schedule

Mother can provide healthy food and snacks to children regularly. We recommend do not offer other snacks at meals except drinking.

The meal schedule can adjust by age of the child. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), ages 6 to 8 months, the frequency of eating is around 2 to 3 times a day. Meanwhile, at the age of 9 to 23 months, children can eat 3 to 4 times a day.

Maya Product Photo Shoot-217.jpg

2. Environment

Create a pleasant atmosphere when children eat. Also never force children if they refuse to eat, but communicate with them.

The use of gadgets must also be considered. The tendency of children to eat while watching videos from gadgets is now done by many parents in order to let children want to eat. But this is so wrong, parents!!

"Not only not good in terms of psychology, children who are given gadgets are just bothering them to learn about the taste and texture of food," said Dr. Frieda.

Also avoid to give rewards or gifts to children whenever they finish their meal. For example, parents promised them to give sweets after they finish their meal. If children is rewarded with a gift, they not eating because of necessity but because they want a gift. This kind of thing is not good for their development, parents.

Grabease278.jpg

3. Procedure

Prioritize children to eat first and drink after finish meal. If they don’t want to eat and start to turning their head away, crying, and closing their mouth, try to keep offering food again.

But remember, don't forced. Offer food neutral as usual.

"Keep trying for 10 to 15 minutes, and if they till do not want to eat, stop the eating process," said Dr. Frieda.

The process of feeding children, Dr. Frieda said, does require extra patience. Besides being patient, feeding them is also a bonding time with children, a period of learning and loving. Don’t forget to invite them to communicate, for example you can tell a story while introducing food.

The 5 best straw cups for your baby in 2019

Choosing sippy straw cups for your baby with hundreds of collection on the market would be a very handful job to do. It can be pretty overwhelming when you’re standing in front of a selection of 30+ sippy straw cups.

But whether you like it or not, it is a must to do job. Why? Pediatricians recommend weaning your baby from the bottle (of breastmilk or formula) and switching to a cup at approximately 12 months old in order to support oral appropriate oral motor skill development. Let them exercise their face muscles (lips and jaw), tongue, and soft palate, all of which are connected to speech and feeding.

Before we go through recommendation part, I would like to let you know pros and cons between choosing a sippy cup or a straw cup.

Just like with a bottle, baby places her tongue at the front of her mouth to form a seal and suckle while using a sippy cup. For this reason, some pediatricians and speech and language pathologists recommend straw cups over sippy cups. With straw cups, your baby is more likely to learn the new skill of pulling her tongue to the back of her mouth when she drinks.

In addition to learning the proper tongue and mouth placement for drinking (rather than suckling), your baby must also master the hand-eye coordination required to hold, lift, and tip her cup towards her mouth, all while sitting upright on her own. Straw cups offer less practice for these skills because your baby can successfully drink from them while still reclining and sucking, and not sitting upright or fully tipping the cup to her mouth.

Now we go to recommendation part.

Baby's first solid food

Babies needs to be given their first food gradually after having exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of their life. After baby is 6 months old, breastmilk alone is unable to meet the nutritional needs of the baby, so baby needs to eat foods other than only breast milk.

The baby has indirectly shown signs that he is ready to be given solid food near the age of 6 months. Such as being able to hold his head, able to pull out his tongue, has begun to look interested in food, look at food at the dinner table, and may try to reach the food in front of him. If the baby has shown such signs, it means they’re ready to be introduced to their first solid foods.

If parents introduce too early, baby may will stop breastfeeding soon, and they will not get the benefits of breast milk. If introduced too late, they will be more difficult to take solid food, so it may caused them a shortage of vitamins and minerals.

What is the first food parents should give to baby?

First Food

Start by giving them soft food or mashed food. The choices can be rice porridge, or baby cereal. Occasionally give boiled vegetables and fruits, such as potatoes, carrots, yams, apples or pears. Soft fruits such as melons may also be given to him.

Even so, giving varied types of food is still recommended as it is feared if only giving rice cereal, babies are at risk of excessive arsenic exposure.

Finger food

After getting used to eat soft foods, you can give him finger food. Finger food is a food that is cut to the size of a finger so that it is easily grasped and eaten by the baby. You can give banana or avocado pieces as finger food. Initially the baby may learn to hold food with his own hands and learn to put it in his mouth, but later at the age of 8-10 months, usually the little one can consume finger food in slightly larger portions.

Advanced food

If the baby can successfully eat the two stages above, it means that they can consume advanced foods that are more complex. Foods like chicken, meat, noodles, bread, rice, and boiled eggs are safe to give to them. But make sure the food is cooked till it soft to make it easier to eat and avoid choking.

Drink from a cup

Give the baby the experience of drinking directly from an open cup or glass after he is six months old. This way will help his ability to drink as well as good for tooth development.

Eat three times a day

At first, baby may eats enough twice a day, but after they are 8-9 months old, they can start eating three times a day. Later at the age of 12 months, they are used to eating three times a day plus light meals. In addition, from the age of 12 months, babies can drink cow's milk. Choose full-fat dairy products because children under the age of two need extra fat and vitamins for their physical development.

The importance to let your baby self-feeding, it's worth the mess

As a new parents, you might being really protective of you kids. You are afraid of choking issue, so you may always feed your children. Of course I know every parents might have different perception about self-feeding for children, let we discuss the importance of allowing children to be in charge of their own feeding and learn how to listen to their bodies, it is also called BLW (baby-led weaning).

This article will let you know why you should stop feeding them and let your little one self-feeding, and yes, letting them self-feeding definitely worth the mess.

Self-Feeding-Skills.jpg

Why baby self-feeding is worth the mess?

Learning to eat alone (self-feeding) must be trained early so that the child is active in various things later. When a child is able to grasp something it's good to let them eat by themselves so that his fingers are stimulated.

Children who learn to grab food and put it in their mouths are expected to be more skilled in using their hands for other positive activities such as coloring or drawing.

The more they learns to hold, after a long time their fine motor muscles or small muscles become stronger. When they gets bigger, we stimulate him to self-feeding using a utensils according to his size, and then he gets more skilled, which means he gets stronger again.

What is a good age to start self-feeding and why?

Once you introduce solid food, your child might show signs of wanting to feed himself. Just wait until your child is able to pick up food and get it into their mouths successfully, whether using their hands or utensils, then it is the right time to begin the transition to self-feeding. It is an important stage of children to self-feeding. Self-feeding involves lots of feeling, squeezing and dropping food. It might seem messy, but it’s one of the ways your child develops fine motor skills like learning to hold a spoon.

Start baby self-feeding with..

Finger foods

In BLW method there is mentioned about letting your children observe food by their own. Soft, bite-sized pieces of food that are easy for baby to pick up and mash between his gums or teeth. Like a small piece of soft fruit or soft and cooked vegetables like potato or pumpkin. You can add more if they’re finish their meal or if they’re drop it.

Start introduce solid food to them while they are 6 months old, the important thing is finger foods are not their main nutrition resource, by that time we encourage you to keep breastfeeding your baby, but, let them observe foods. You will find out that when they have interested in foods, then it would be easier to let them self-feeding.

Using utensils

Technically there is no right or wrong about giving children use utensils to self-feeding, as long as utensils was made for children, like Grabease. The self-feeding journey with hands is very important as it helps a baby to experience texture and it is all important for the gag reflex. Utensils then bring to the table the next developmental step in learning about mealtime etiquette and motor development.

54446757_364846740772280_6466995801585268259_n.jpg

Why Grabease is the best fork and spoon to start with?

Let’s talk about traditional children’s cutlery. They look very much like adult cutlery, just scaled down to a small size. However, if you put a traditional child’s spoon next to a baby’s arm, you will see that a “child size” spoon is actually the same length as a 12-month old’s forearm! If adults used the same proportions in utensils when we ate we’d be eating with a serving spoon.  So, traditional children’s utensils are too big.

Then there is improper hand-hold in “child size” spoon. Due to the long handle, a child can’t use a proper vertical hand grasp to use them, so they hold these handles with a fist. This doesn’t encourage fine motor development.

54731909_2241240635919112_265264967764969859_n.jpg

There really is only one solution and that’s Grabease. They encourage vertical and horizontal hold because of the short ergonomic handle and have been endorsed by Occupational Therapists due to this revolutionary feature.

Last but not least, messy eating and playing with food are normal parts of your baby’s development when they’re learning to eat independently. It’s normal for your baby to drop or throw food on the floor. If you react when they do this, he might think it’s the start of an exciting new game. One way to handle this is ignore it. Pick up the food calmly, without a fuss. Or you can leave the food on the floor until they finish their meal so you just have the one clean-up.

Needless to say, teaching children self-feeding is often a long and messy journey. Just let the food fly!!
